Linkshell

Players who are coming from Final Fantasy XI are familiar with the concept of linkshells. It is an item that the user "wears", presumably close to the ear, so that you can talk with your fellow adventurers. You don't actually see this on your person, other than in the form of the crest by your name, which will be discussed below. Think of the linkshell as a group chat where you can meet with your friends to coordinate events and communicate in your own designated space.

Where to find

Linkshells are sold by NPCs in each of the starting cities, in the taverns where you get your levequests. They are:

There is no cost associated with obtaining a linkshell, the only requirement is that you do not pick a name that is already in use. Linkshell names can contain spaces as well. When creating your linkshell, after you choose your name, you then decide on the crest and color.

Equipping

To equip your new linkshell, open your menu, select "Linkshell", then "Linkshells". This should show you a list of linkshells that you have been invited to. If someone else has sent you an invite to a linkshell, you will first have to accept that invite by opening the menu and looking for the option to accept above the Main Menu.

Chatting

Select the linkshell from the list and this will become your active linkshell. Whichever is your active linkshell is the one that you will actually be able to chat in. Any other linkshells you have will simply be display the conversation, denoted by a number within brackets to indicate which linkshell it was from. You can the select the "Talk to Members" option or alternatively you can type /chatmode l to speak in linkshell chat.

Administration

Ranks

There are 3 ranks in a linkshell: master, leader, and member. These equate to shell holder, sack holder, and linkpearl in Final Fantasy XI. The master has the most control, followed by leaders, and members can only speak and see linkshell chat.

Inviting/Banning

Both masters and leaders can invite members to the linkshell. To do this, target the player you wish to invite and open the menu. Select "Invite to Linkshell". The player will then have to accept to be able to equip the linkshell. Masters and leaders can also remove or "Exile" members. To do so you must be in the vicinity of the player to remove and use the menu option (the player's name in the member list must not be greyed out). Only masters can remove leaders, a leader cannot remove another leader.

Masters

There are other things that only masters can do. For example, only masters can promote members to leader. Again, this requires that the player be in the vicinity and the master uses the appropriate menu option. Masters can also alter the linkshell crest. Finally, they can disband the linkshell altogether.
