The list of panel for GDC grows with the recent additions of Borderlands 2, WoW, and EVE Online panels.
The Game Developers Conference, GDC for short, is a little over a month away and the list of lectures continues to grow. The latest addition includes talks from Gearbox Software (Borderlands 2), Blizzard (World of Warcraft), and CCP Games (EVE Online and DUST 514). These panels will be added to the Design, Programming, and Production lecture tracks respectfully.
Lead writer Anthony Burch of Gearbox Software will lead the talk 'Designing Humor in Borderlands 2.' In the lecture he will discuss how quests without gameplay can be funnier than with it, how every mechanic holds the potential for humor, and that even humor needs to be debugged at times.
Joe Rumsey from Blizzard will run the panel 'Network Serialization and Routing in World of Warcraft.' He will show how they handle machine generated codes for serialization, dynamic protocol negotiation and more including sample codes to illustrate these.
Lastly, senior technical producer Andie Nordgren from CCP Games will talk about connecting DUST 514 and EVE Online cross-platform in 'Creating the EVE Universe: Technical and Cultural Strategies.' Her lecture will also explain "how patterns from web services can be used to create the ability to connect" games with mobile apps and 3rd party applications.
If you are planning on attending GDC and haven't bought a ticket yet, the time to act is now. The deadline for the Early Bird discount passes ends February 13th. After this tickets will be available until March 20th, but no longer at the discounted price.
