Skyrim's Next Expansion "Hearthfire" Outlined

Home ownership, adoption and the like.

After vampire/werewolf slaying and/or turning, it's time for something more relaxed in Skyrim. Hearthfire's name and theme is accurate, as gone are the majestic, triumphant battles, and it plays it much more low-key. It's about family, house construction, and building a 'home', in every sense of the word. You can adopt children, move your spouse in, and add expansions or details to your home as you see fit. And all the details are above, in the video. Best yet, it's coming out September 4th.

And, of course, it will be for 360 first, then PC. Since Bethesda still is unable to fix the hardware issue with the PS3, it most likely will not be coming out for it.

Anyone planning on picking it up?

First thoughts:

Overall, I like the idea. Getting new houses is fun, and if you can actually customize them, that'd be great. Adoption looks ok... my first (evil) thought was "Can I murder their parents and then adopt them?" While it's neat to "start a family," I hope the marriage mechanic will be upgraded. Right now, getting married is useful only to:
1. Get food once a day
2. Get 100 gold once a day
3. Get a 15% skill speed buff while resting.

Your spouse never goes anywhere or says anything new, and short of PC console commands, you can't get "divorced." I'm hoping that all the new additions to the house make the spouse do new things as well; ie, get an alchemy lab, have them make random potions. Or set up some shrines, find them praying at one of them.

Also, remarriage would be nice. Er, y'know. Just in case you accidentally turned into a werewolf, killed, and ate your wife.

... hey, these things happen to some of us! Smiley: bah
