KingsIsle Entertainment recently released its first iPhone application, WizardBlox, and it gives Wizard101 players the opportunity to win in-game items even if they can't be near their computer. The free app is based on the Sorcery Stones mini-game and is sure to appeal to fans of Bejeweled and other puzzle games.

"WizardBlox for iPhone provides Wizard101 fans with a way to stay connected with the game world when they are on the go," said Todd Coleman, creative director of KingsIsle Entertainment. "It's a fun way to spend a few minutes that now provides players an opportunity to earn unique items in Wizard101."

Back in December, KingsIsle Entertainment sold special Meowmodon mounts in Wizard101 for approximately $15 each to support the Child's Play and the Austin Children's Shelter charities. The company just announced today it raised $126,000 through the event, and the money will be evenly distributed between both organizations.

All of the proceeds from the mount sales are going to the charities, which means approximately 8,400 Meowmodons were purchased by Wizard101 players. That high number certainly demonstrates a great turnout from the community of this family friendly MMO. You can read more about the fundraiser after the jump.

KingsIsle Entertainment is currently selling the Meowmodon mount in Wizard101 to support the Child's Play and the Austin Children's Shelter charities. The mount costs approximately $15 and the amount will be divided equally between the organizations.

Meowmodon will only be available for purchase in the in-game Crown Shop until Jan. 5, 2010, so buy it as soon as possible if you'd like to help these children's charities.

Wizard101 players will have some new housing options to choose from this month when seven School of Magic houses are added to the game. KingsIsle Entertainment recently announced that houses reflecting the magic schools of life, death, fire, ice, myth, storm and balance will be available for purchase in mid-December.

The School houses may be purchased for 10,000 Crowns, which costs $20, or 100,000 in-game gold. There are already houses in the game based on the worlds of Wizard City, Krokotopia, Marleybone, Moo Shu and Dragonspyre, and KingsIsle just revealed that even more houses are currently in development.

We've received word from both Perfect World Entertainment and KingsIsle Entertainment that Ether Saga Online and Wizard101 were both named Honors Award winners in the 2009 National Parenting Publications Awards (NAPPA) Children's Products competition. The awards acknowledge that both MMOs are standouts among the video games available for children today.

For an example of the criteria that is sought among judges, here's a quote from NAPPA judge Alex Chisholm regarding Wizard101: "This multi-player online adventure game encourages social activity and collaboration among players. While other online fantasy games may be too mature for some kids, Wizard101 hits a nice balance among fun, adventure and competition as players are summoned to help save Wizard City."

We'd like to congratulate both games for earning these awards. What other family friendly MMOs do you play? Free Realms immediately jumps to mind.

We reported on the new mounts last month, and the first four that have been implemented in the game are Brooms, Horses, Cats, and Dragons. You can rent them for a day or a week, or even purchase them permanently.

A new Crowns Shop icon will appear on your screen that will give you access to the store at nearly every point in the game. Henchmen are hired Wizards you can purchase in combat to help you with a duel, while the seamstress will transfer the stats of one item to the appearance of another.

Check out the full patch notes for more information on the update, which also includes new elixers, gift giving, housing previews, transmutation crafting and more.

Wizard101 players both young and old alike will be able to ride brooms, horses, cats and dragons when Wizard Mounts are added to the game in October. A wider variety of mounts will be available in the future, but these four will be the only ones you can purchase at launch.

The mounts can be rented for one day or a week, and they may also me permanently purchased with in-game gold or Crowns. One-day rentals add a 20% movement increase, while seven-day rentals and permanent purchases add a 40% speed boost. The full announcement can be found below.
