I thought I'd spark up a little discussion, since it's pretty slow on the Hades forum...

I started FFXI at NA release oh so many years ago and I've never seen this: so many mage class jobs LFG. Usually you have 18 warriors, thieves and DRKs sitting around waiting for parties, but lately as I've been searching for groups (or players for my own party) there have been a considerable lack of melee jobs LFG. I've not had a terrible problem getting into a group, sometimes I've waited an hour or two, so I'm not complaining. I just think it's odd.

What do you think the cause of it is? Boredom? Everyone has their melee jobs leveled enough that they thought they'd kick around as a WHM for a while?

What I have noticed is a lack of tanks. You are right that there are TONS of casters out there, but no tanks. Past level 40 you really do need either a paladin or a ninja for a tank to make exp flow.... and I put this awsome party together and I spend like 30 min looking for a tank....

if you've been around since NA pc release(or hell ps2 even) you should know by now that these things fluctuate.

Sometimes there's too many melee, and melee can't get jobs, so they lvl mage jobs. Then the mage jobs are flooded and not enough melee. So when these mage jobs catch up to the melee jobs, pple swap to their melee jobs, and now there's no mages again.

It all varies. Get used to it. If you can't find mages in one lvling range, like say 59-61, then do a /sea for a sj you might need to lvl, like 34-36 or something. Betcha the situation will be reversed!

As I said in my original post, I wasn't complaining, I have no trouble getting into parties. There's no need for the "get used to it" tone.

When I played, and I haven't played the whole time since NA release; I quit the game for two years. In the time I did play, which was over a year, there was rarely--if ever--more mages sitting around compared to melee. I didn't pose the question without thinking on the subject either, but I was interested to hear if there were any different reasons out there: perhaps what's been added in AU is requiring more mage-heavy parties? Or Dynamis tactics have shifted?
