Hey everyone. It's been a while since I have played this game (pre WotG). I was wondering if the level cap ruined the game much? And by ruined I mean removed some of the fun playing. I have a friend that played during the raise of the level cap and he said it removed a lot of the fun of the game for him. Just wondering what everyone thought and if it's worth it to try to pick up from level 75 again.

Thanks!

Hi!

you have to take it as a whole, and not just look at it through the lense of "did the raising of the level cap ruin the game," but "after the massive amount of changes, is the game stil enjoyable?" SE has made MANY changes in the last year and a half, and honestly its intertwined and basing enjoyability on the level cap raise alone is almost impossible to do.

The points of note:
EXP is VERY easy to get now.
*In the new content areas (Abyssea) you can literally get 100-200k/hr exp (I went from 74-81 BLM last saturday night in 3 hours and that was just a "decent" party).
*Older areas (pre-Abyssea) give double exp now.
*FoV can be repeated as many times as you wish (not just once a day anymroe).
*grounds of valor was added (fov for dungeons).

Most things can be low-manned.
Large linkshells are a thing of the past.
Much less drama than what occurred in those big LSes.

Equipment is fairly easy to come by.

Most things are less expansive on the AH.

More inventory.
*SE implemented a mog satchel AND a mog sack, each can hold 80 items (although to get the satchel you need to buy a real-life security token).
*SE also implemented a way to store a hefty amount of armor, even if you dont have all the pieces (re: relic armor).

Those are the big things. Honestly, I think its much more fun to play now - levelling is easy (for the most part), which means if you always wanted to try job X, you can (in theory) get it 1-90 (current cap) in about 3 days of hardcore playing or 4 weeks of casual playing. Also being able to rely on small groups to do things is a HUGE boon too.

The only two groups of people that seem bummed are those that had top-of-the-line gear that now is either obsolete OR will require further work to upgrade it / make it relevant again, or those that say the game is "too easy." The first group always makes me laugh, as I wonder how they will take it when the servers eventually shut down (not saying anytime soon but death is inevitable to everything) and they lose all they worked so hard for. As to the second group.....eh, its a game. If you want challenge go get your PhD or do something worthwhile irl.

TL;DR, the game is much more fun than it ever was.

It really does depend on what you may find fun.

The "thrill" of the hunt is gone a bit. Mostly due to no longer taking 18 people into the fields for something you can duo or even solo, but also because realistically nothing can really kill you like it used to. Exp is a complete non-issue too. People used to be a bit conservative, a bit held back from doing absolutely retarded things. But now when they die, they'll have the EXP back in under a minute anyhow. So groups will be incredibly small with only a handfull of people you can trust. The times where you had 6 good linkshell members and 12 retarded ones you just had to drag along so that you'd be able to throw bodies at things are lone gone.

The real downside is that a lot of the previously "popular" events are no longer done. Nyzul Isle has no more use, salvage has very little use, Sky or even Sea has barely any use (though that's kinda getting a little influx due to needing their seals now), i cant recall the last time i ever saw anyone do Campaign.

So, pro's for me:
* You can take the people with you that you know can contribute, and leave the rest at home.
* You could basicly duo anything of worth in the game short of... well, no, anything i suppose. Brews counting.

con's:
* Very little danger of anything
* A very limited pallet of things that are being done or which you can do.
* People are turning into dicks a little since they no longer require the support of a lot of random people. If they can get away with something bad, it's not a problem for them as long as they keep one or two friends for alliance forming leaders. Prepare to get screwed out of a lot of things, or to be plunged into unfair situations revolving the distribution of loot. (i.e. "I set up the party, so i get item A, B, C, D and E, item F is freelot if you have a pup that can use it")
