Eh, IMO it is just as much skye's fault as it is an entire shell not being polite.
Just have to assume a few things here, and I know...we all know what assumptions mean. <.<
1.) Skye's fault, because clearly she didn't care enough about being able to obtain the gear to make sure she understood how to comment said gear properly. This is the reason LS have forums, ya know. Same reason products get shipped with manuals, same reason hair dryers come with huge as labels telling you not to stick the electric device in water, or not to stick your tounge to any part of said device, or other such idiocy-protection labels. Or the sign on McDonalds telling you the coffee is HOT and to take caution, because steam rising and the employee wrapping the cup in 3 napkins to barely hold onto it isn't easy enough to understand ITS @#%^ING HOT.
2.) Let me ask you this question, from one dynamis vet to others. How many of you check the linkshell list to see who else is in competition with you for the evening(in shells that use search comments occasionally or full time)? I don't know about you all, but even though I'm not a leader I was always checking search comments just to be curious. I'm going to assume here that in this linkshell, there are also members, non-leader members, who scan the competition out. Specially in a CoP zone. I'm getting to the point here.
Aside from a leader telling skye that her comment needed correction, why did none of the LS members send a tell or /p and ask if skye needed help setting up her comment, or figuring out if she needed help figuring out if she was even ELIGABLE to lot on anything? Furthermore, why did a leader not attempt to make a more thorough attempt via /tell? Even furthermore still, why did Skye not pay attention to /L which is where said leader warned of her incorrect search comment? I just find it hard to believe no one in the LS is to blame here, even if it is just a fraction of the blame. Evil(bad situations) thrives when good men do nothing.
3.) Third assumption. Mostly comes from #2's assumption. This LS has communication issues or people were all ready discriminating against Skye prior to this incedent in some way, enough to where no one would step forward to assist in correcting her search comment.
4.) Seems like the blame could be (skye)60/40(ls) here. Dyna shell vs. Skye. Skye, you failed by doing the one thing that is the most common plauge of all dynamis members: cruise control, mind is gone, little focus. This is most likely the reason you missed the /l message from a leader telling you your comment was wrong. Dyna shell, you failed by not taking the extra step to protect yourselves from item thievery/misunderstanding(s) and ensure a conflict won't happen. Somewhere down the line, both parties made some assumptions instead of talking things out and decided there was no other possible explination or way to handle the situation.
Seems to me like a simple apology and second chance with a little more trust and understanding is needed here. WHERE'S THE LOVE PEOPLE!? Don't make me have to get on BST just so I can shoot pink hearts of love from my crotch wearing a white subligar...
OH edit. Food for thought. What would it have taken to solve this issue in the first place? All it would have taken is a single person with a little care for a fellow LS member, to help sort out the search comment. What if Skye pretended to ignore them, or didn't listen to them, you ask? What if skye still ninja lotted on the item anyway, you ask? Well, you'd have a lot more umph behind the arguement that the LS is in no way at fault here for one thing. You'd also have an instance where an LS actually showed care for another person, enough to think about their well being and goals(such as getting new gear!). That'd definitely get you on the higher moral ground, which is almost always the deciding factor in any social disagreements in a peer-judged situation. Seeing as FFXI is all peer-based interaction, your moral position is definitely something you want to think about at all times.
