No no, don't force them to say Merry Christmas. Xmas, happy holidays, etc is fine.

I didn't know xmas is to be politically correct, I thought that was the purpose of "happy holidays." I figured xmas was just for lazy people lol.

if someone is so sensitive about religion to be hurt when someone says christmas over whatever they wanted to hear instead, they've missed the point by miles and should reconsider whatever they believe.

There's nothing wrong with a person who is not a Christian to shorten Christmas to Xmas. In fact I would prefer this option, as forcing them to celebrate something they do not believe in is clearly wrong.

All the religious zealots who are trying to "keep Christ in Christmas" have missed the point about Christmas.

Fact of the matter is, the Church shouldn't be fighting against those who are trying to take Christ out of Christmas. Let them have their way, Christmas was not a directive given to the Jews or Gentiles, it's a tradition implemented by the Roman Catholic Church. How many times have traditions changed over the course of time? Tons! Is it blasphemous to not celebrate Christmas if you're a Christian? No it is not, it's just a tradition! Forcing someone to recognize a belief they do not believe in, is again clearly wrong.

And that is all I will say on this matter. :P

If you are HONESTLY BUTT HURT (people who care only to bitch about it for the sake of bitching and being snotty are automatically going to burn[or freeze?] in hell/hades/Gbay/etc anyway; so you don't count) over when someone (WHO DOES NOT MATTER TO YOUR BELIEFS [KEY WORD: YOUR, NOT HIS OR HER]), says Merry Christmas instead of staying Happy Festivus/Happy Kwanzaa/Happy Hannukah/Merry Xmas/Seasons Greetings/Happy Holidays then I encourage you to rethink your beliefs or leave your multicultural country because this is obviously important to you... Otherwise just tell the person, who most likely only said this just to be nice to you, that you don't mean to be rude but you celebrate X instead of Y.

But let's not forget the real reason christmas/winter holidays/festivus exists. Magic mushrooms!

Actually, holiday is a bastarized version of the words Holy and Day. It has nothing to do with Jesus. If holiday = jesus then many holidays are nothing more then celebratory days based on whatever a person is celebrating. You know what? They have a name for that.... holiday...


Adding to it, Lemmi, Christmas predates Jesus, it was pagan holidays that the catholic church took as there own and named after jesus. Though he more likely was born in the springtime due to baby animals being around and positioning of the stars according to the story. Easter would be a better birthday for him then christmas to be honest. Hell we still celebrate pagan rituals, gingerbread cookies? during the winter solstice a few smaller religions actually baked bread in the shape of people. Yule log burning is also another tradition. The christmas tree being decorated? nope not christian nor a part of judism which christianity sprang from.

Personally I don't care whether you celebrate christmas for religious reasons, or just to get pretty presents like I do, just do us all a favor and don't park in my fuc*ing spot at the mall, k? k.

maybe, maybe not, I haven't got a lot of sleep lately and thought you meant literally all holidays revolve around jesus. So in closing, Soggy is a squid.

I guess I'll clarify my position on this, not that it really matters... I don't celebrate Christmas for any religious purpose. I think it is a neat holiday and I enjoy the ho-ho-ho spirit of it. Baking, dining w/ family & friends, exchanging gifts, the corny music, the fat guy in the chimney, etc. I know from my Christian upbringing that I am supposed to celebrate it for the birth of Christ and all that, but I don't believe in that stuff anymore, so I enjoy the holidays for more practical reasons. I think when it comes to the Christmas spirit, there is room for more than just the religious aspect.

Although I don't believe in Jesus, I really don't understand how anyone can find it offensive if someone wishes them Happy Christmas. How is that offensive? Somehow we've come to where you either wish someone the holiday they celebrate, or you don't wish them anything at all (which is pretty much what "happy holidays" is, the verbal equivalent of a non-committal wave of a hand) for fear of getting them all offended. This whole "happy holidays" business has got to be an American invention.

I guess sooner or later we can't tell someone to have a nice day, either, since we can't be sure they even want to have a nice day; maybe they want to have a sh*tty one, and we are being selfish and offensive by trying to wish them otherwise.
