Someone give me a reason to keep playingFollow

#1 Apr 18 2009 at 1:53 AM Rating: Good
Seriously, I'm about a week away from quitting this game. The recent update was pathetic, ACP was a waste of my money, the mog satchel (with free token) makes me sick... it's just making me not want to do anything in FFXI anymore.

I need inspiration, I need something to do. My RL just got a whole lot busier, I barely have time to play midweeks now, so most of my free time is at the weekend.

But when I log on, I stare at the screen, think "I don't actually want to do anything" then log off and go do something else...

(I suppose it doesn't help that I played the WoW trial a few weeks ago, and realised that it's not as bad as people make it out to be. I'm not going there full time, though.)

Honestly the game is a waste of time and life. I can't give you a reason to keep playing, and as soon as my RL gets busy again I'm probably going.

Deactivating my account again next month.

Like I said, only going back this month just to get that body piece. and done.

If it feels boring to you, then stop playing. There's really no point getting more motivation to play this game when you're already at the point to say "this game is boring".

Been there many times. Honestly, the best thing to do is suspend your content IDs and come back when you are ready.

I have left the game a few times feeling exactly the same way.

Go play some other games, online or offline.

I have tried WoW a few times but never played it longer than 2 months before I got bored as heck with it.

Played a bit of SWG, I have some friends on Bloodfin that own and run a city, I just got fed up with all the retarded stuff SOE has done to ruin the game. I get back on when they toss me some free play time to visit friends and work on my pilot stuff mostly. Usually get to bored and frustrated after a few weeks. Longest I played this was 3 months I think.

I have played a good bit of Guild Wars off and on over the years. Great story lines and unique game play. Biggest down side is that the player base is lacking in quality due to many young players. However, once you get past that and get a good way into the stories it can be quite captivating. Next weekend is the 4 year anniversary event, I'll be logging on for that :P

Right now I am playing a f2p MMO called Runes of Magic. They have blended lots of elements from many MMOs and have made quite a decent game out of it. They do have real money shop but you can easily enjoy the game with out using it. Most of the stuff in there is intended to make aspects of game play a little faster or easier. They do not sell weapons or armor in it, kinda. They sell some unique armor skins that you can transfer other armors stats onto.

Sometimes on my breaks from FFXI I have just gone and played other games I have that I have not played in a while or never beat. When I do eventually return to FFXI I tend to enjoy it again and can find tons of stuff I want to do again.

Um... A reason to keep playing? I will miss you?

Seriously though, if you are no longer finding enjoyment in the game, maybe it is time to take a break. Of course, we will all miss you, but there is no use in getting on if you are bored and don't want to be there. It is a game, something you are supposed to have fun with. If you are no longer finding that fun, it is time to do something else.

Guilt trip Smiley: frown I miss you guys too.

Saturday nights aren't easy for me anymore... I'm normally busy irl, I haven't decided yet but I will probably end up leaving... no final decision though.

I had a nice day yesterday, doing some FoV in Cape Terror, and of course Nyzul is always epic fun.

Got essentially kicked from FK though by KoD for daring to ask 2 people in the group if they want to do Nyzul, or Einherjar, which was running minimum 50 minutes late. They came to Nyzul.

I got accused of threatening/forcing them to leave... when they can both testify I did no such thing. So, KoD, sir, kindly go f*ck yourself with that huge e-penis that you have for god knows whatever reason. Until I get an apology, I'm not setting foot in FK again.

That wasn't really a great help, dealing with people like that. But I got a pearl to Realms, out of sympathy (much <3 to Mojo and Lyanna), seems a nice LS. Haven't got to know anyone yet though.

In conclusion, had some fun, refused to take someone's sh*t and whining, got hit for 1200 by Friar Rush in Nyzul.

Good times.

Well i Didnt kick you or even tell you to leave if i remember correctly!
But i did say i didnt respect you asking FK members to leave an FK event for one of your events specaily considering you did get your love torque with almost 0effort! I really piss'd off @ the time and maybe did tell you 2 leave but i dnt remember that part!

Likibiki wrote:
Einherjar, which was running minimum 50 minutes late.

Hmm in my knowledge Einga Started 20-25min Late whitch is normaly pretty normal yes there 30min Earlyer "gather time" But normaly we do wait lil longer for the late comers to get to us!

Likibiki wrote:

But why do they always say how they getting tells about nyzul you guys complaining bitching about them coming late when clearly you know why?! and i said nothing about threatening/forcing them to leave i said complain/yelling at them!
In my Knowledge your Nyzule group used to start 1hour later after FK Ein Start time whitch was put down by 30min But this was when you used to attend FK Ein!

Likibiki wrote:

I'm Afraid to let you know that your not gonna get this apology maybe if you didnt post this i would of, But we'll never know now!! So I'm gonna go play with my Big E-Penis some More!

LISA NEEDS BRACES

KoD, after all that crap I got from you, I instantly took the pearl off because you made it clear I wasn't welcome anymore. And as for me getting Love Torque with no effort? Seriously? Where did my 130 LS points come from then? YOU gave them to me...

I like to see my members turn up on time, unlike you. Why do you think I stopped coming to events? Sitting around for 30 mins for one guy to get the boat from Whitegate is NOT FUN. Lateness will get me asking where you are, because it's not fair on others. 10-15 minutes, that's fine. Being told you aren't even gathered, when we're meant to be starting... that's not fine. Of course I'm going to ask what they'd prefer to do.

Maybe you just didn't like their decision?

What I was told in my very first Nyzul was that ein was starting for FK at 7pm with a 6.30 gather. As we had a gather time of 7.20-30 with a start time of asap, this worked out the first week.
edit: you were actually there that time, and we started at about 7.45 if I remember correctly. And that was after your einherjar. I remember because I got my dinner at 7.30 on the dot and thought "oh sh*t this is gonna mess up my very first run" but was eating the last spud and drinking the last sip of guiness as we kicked off. But I digress.

Since then, Josh and Roga haven't been on time once. They say the start time changed to later by 30 mins than was originally intended, and that's fine if it's true KoD. It's your ls, you can start events when you like. But, when they have commited to a static, which they would rather do since you can do without them in ein, I'm sure you can understand their decision to leave.

I was talking to Josh before liki was even online, and he said that he would come to Nyzul at 7.30 GMT unless ein had started, because otherwise we'd all be waiting. So it seems like liki didn't need to push him into it.

Not really looking to argue with anyone, just contributing relevant info that may clear a few things up.

It's really just not worth it anymore, losing friendships over events just isn't worth it. Not what I signed up for, not how it's "supposed" to be when your playing a game in your spare time for fun. I don't know when the last time "fun" was....

Yeah, we discussed this the other day. There's a reason that 9,000,000 people play it, after all... bad games don't get that kind of popularity. I tried it for a few days (free trial) and it's pretty fun. Didn't meet anyone but there was hundreds of newbies, and this was just one server.

As for fun, I agree, Luckie. FK and me didn't really agree... I know it's a tad cliche'd now, but I DO "do what I want"... best of luck to you.

It's part of enjoying the game and keeping it fun to be able to do what you want, when you want, or to choose not to do something, Biki. Do what you want and need to do to continue to have fun...otherwise, what's the point in playing?

I don't know if taking up another MMO is such a bad idea. Whenever my husband and I have been burnt out on FFXI, we take up another MMO (RO, WoW, LotRO) and always realise how much better FFXI is after 2-4 weeks and come back refreshed and ready for lots of hot FFXI action. That's just us though and I do see where you're coming from; do whatever would make you the most happy.^^

If you wanna try something, try AO :P
It's a nice change from action-type FFXI to turn-based AO. This involves more strategy than button mashing and reflex in FFXI.

i hope to gawd you aren't talking about atlantica online...that game is just one quest after another, no real purpose...can be fun granted. i did play it for a while. got my character to lvl 50 something i think. but still...bleh. was almost TOO easy...except the shadow dungeons...

then again, if you aren't talking about atlantica online, no biggie. ^^

i agree...losing friends over events is retarded. hence why i am not on pandy. i go with my best friend, because playing game with him is what makes it enjoyable for me, and i want to have fun when i play.

If there's any benefit to LDP, it would just be you can get your own loot and increased rate all of your mercs getting exp bonus post fight.

It's not a good idea when a single group of enemy can kill your 1-2 units in their 2nd turn.
