What is that thing next to peoples names and how do I get it?

The colorful round thing? It's their linkpearl. You either need to look for someone to invite you to their linkshell or start your own and invite people of your own.

If you want to join a shell that's a good social shell and welcomes new players, send a tell to Cerelia, she'll give you a pearl.
In case your wondering where to get your own Linkshell to be the Linkshell Leader you can purchase one from these NPC's in these cities.
If not just ask nicely for one fromm nice people you run across while xp'n or questing ^^

thx guys, another thing, how do I get my camera to not be so close? My hubby also plays and his is far enough back to see everything mines so close all I can see is me and a few feet ahead

I haven't played in a while but i think its the - and + next to your move keys (I know its next to your mover keys). Also just play around with the buttons for a bit to see what they do, also do shift plus buttons. (Just remember what you pressed so you can go back.) when you can, find out about Macros they *WILL* save time and energy, Hidden Effect: Less Frustration.
