Hello all!
I'm just posting here to say that after years of this game not letting me play it, it finally allowed me in. Lol, I'll explain.
As an avid RPGamer and Final Fantasy fan, the idea of a Final Fantasy game that you could play with others was a godsend. I remember literally jumping for joy. That being said, I also remember finding out that you'd have to pay to play, and at that time I was far too young to have a job, and my parents weren't very keen about the "internet" or me gaming in general haha.
My next attempt was when the 2007 Vana'Diel pack came out. My younger brother, who at this point followed in my footsteps as far as gaming goes, and I both bought the game for PC, very excited to play together. After loading one copy to the family rig and another to my laptop, we both found out the hard way that even though the family PC could play Star Wars Galaxies, it could play FFXI. On top of that, I was told very rudely by playonline that "THIS GAME WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED ON A LAPTOP!" I was told that I'd have to buy $250 graphic cards for both machines. Wasn't going to happen. On top of that, I couldn't return the two games that I now couldn't play. Wasn't very happy.
Fast forward to yesterday, I decided to finally bite the bullet and drop my grudge and pick up the game. I started installing it at about 6pm last night and it finished a little after 11. That was one hell of an install. Decided to play, and although my usual name of "Aurelius" that I use for these things was already taken, I switched it up, made a character, and started playing.
I must say that it's the first time in a LONG time that I've felt like a newb at anything haha. I was certainly an odd feeling, with players talking to me like I was a moron at this, not to mention the fact that I was a moron at it haha. Finally I found an older player to talk to, and we talked about starting out and whatnot. Starting at Bastok, I went south and killed some huge hornets, ding bats, and worms and got myself to level 3. Overall, it was very enjoyable. I'm kinda upset that I can't play with my brother, because he doesn't have a system that supports it, but I'm eager to get going with this game.
I'll probably be on around 9:30pm EST tonight until late, so if you want to help a newb level, or have a subjob that you've just been dying to start out, look for me in or south of Bastok. I'm a newb at this, but I promise I'm not new to MMO's or RPG's, and I promise not to talk in 1337 lol. Hope to see you there.
