So when's that gonna happen in Afghanistan?

When Afghanistan decides not to grant immunity to US soldiers.

First the combat units will be redeployed back to the states and then a few years after the bases will be turned over to the Afghan people.

I knew there were going to be a lot of base closures in Iraq, but I always figured it would be more like Korea and we'd leave a presence there permanently. There's still the issue of the aftermath to consider, so it's not like it's a guarantee we won't ever be going back in a more peacekeeping capacity.

I read somewhere that they would leave 3000-5000, but I can't find the story now. It seems now they're saying there will only be enough to guard the US embassy.

That translates to "You're going to Kuwait and we don't know exactly when we can fly you out so you could be there up to a couple of months." How can you be an officer and not know how to read orders? It's like your one and only duty.

Because that's not what it means. It was like that at one time, but it changed numerous of times. When we arrived, it was "you may be in Kuwait up to 6 months". Then it changed to "you will be out of Kuwait under 14 days".. Then it changed to just recently, that we will be "relieving" our sister BDE in Kuwait.

Trust, me it's not what you said....It was the joke of the day.. The BDE CDR posted some information on Facebook and the FRG went crazy. Some Soldiers even said some stuff. The CSM had to remind us that we don't have freedom of speech.....

above is the screen shot.

On a side note, from what I've gathered, Mr. Obama said "Combat" mission/unit again in his speech. This is how those 3k Soldiers can still remain in Iraq, because they are not "Combat". This is nothing more than a political move to say that he kept his promises. What people are not realizing is that simply changing from "combat" to "Advise and Assist" still equals Iraq.

But, hey, I'll see if I'm home before Christmas. While possible, I doubt it. I'm looking forward to that Jan. Combat pay.

Well I knew I would forget something..

The only way the two would be the same is if our new mission from our sister BDE is to wait in Kuwait for 7 months for flying home. Don't think it'll take 7 months to fly a BDE home.. Nice try though. This is the part where you say "my bad".

He specifically said that we have taken on a new mission and we don't know what it is and we could be there for a year but are planning on our normal schedule until told otherwise.

Sure. BDE is brigade, CDR is cadre, FRG is Family Readiness Group, CSM is Command Sergeant Major, OPSEC is Operational Security, IKR is I know, right, IDK is I don't know, AIAD is Alma Is A Douche, OPD is Officer Professional Development (I lol'd at that.), OPORD is Operation Orders, NCO is Non-Commissioned Officer, CHU is Container Housing Unit, And Alma is an officer that can't read orders.

I hope that helps a little.

You know those giant trailers that trucks haul cargo in? Put one or two walls inside, doors on one side, window on the other, run some basic wiring and an air conditioner and boom. Housing for two to twelve people per unit. As far as redundancy ... well, making sense isn't a priority when it comes to military protocol and such.

Dunno if it's the same thing in army land, but over here at the Naval Shipyard we have things that are like a cross between a mobile home [that has been sub-divided] and a freight container.

Sounds about the same as what we have show up here on the Shipyard. Not great, but probably better than living on a Sub while it gets maintenance.

Yes, Facebook notes really are the official military messages that come out.

I thought those FB pages were more for providing general information to the military members' families than anything. If the military really is telling you to rely on FB, I'm really glad that Ray retired from the military when he did.

They're "civilian-translated" to the FB pages and of course any sensitive information is taken out, but Ray's seen a rise in commands here in San Diego using FB pages to send out info. It should all be taken with a grain of salt, though, as anything can change on the fly. I would say that FB pages are faster than the old phone-tree method that was used when I was a Navy wife. After 9/11, most phone-tree messages that were sent out were modified by the time everyone got the message so a new phone-tree would have to be sent out.

I am so glad I never became the ombudsman.

Just because you're last to go down there doesn't mean you won't be stuck up front when you get there.

After all, getting there last does severely hamper your ability to call "Not it!".

The only "threat" is going to Kuwait, not in Kuwait. So if I'm left last to go, that only means that everyone else will find all of the potential IEDs before I get there.

Anyway, on topic, I seriously doubt that everyone is going to be back before the "holidays".. We have a lot of pissed off people because the president said that, given our situation. I hope he's right, then again, I want that Jan pay..
