Is this tradition going by the wayside because we tweet and post on FB?

Tonight: Taking Charmaine to a field hockey training camp. My next 5 Fridays are going to be long with this camp going.

Tomorrow: Grocery shopping, errands, picking up the iPhone 4S for Ray and getting the Samsung Galaxy II for me. Going to a concert featuring Emi Meyer. She's a jazz-inspired singer out of Washington. Love her music. Parents are taking Charmaine to see the Man of La Mancha musical (again), which means I'll be discussing Don Quixote with my dad for the next few weeks. This is one of my dad's favorite performances so resigning myself to Cervantes quotes.

Sunday: Church and a nephew's birthday party.

Yesterday Comic Con. Today Comic Con. Tomorrow normal weekend. Oh, and Sunday back to Comic Con.

Already got John Romita, Sr and Stan's Lee's autographs. Greatest weekend since last week.

I feel for you. Man of la Mancha is even less fun to talk about than it is to see...

Anyway, today all I have planned is to be the witness for my sister's marriage license application.

Sunday, I'll be spending all day in the library doing research.

That may or may not be what happens Saturday too.

No big plans for me. Supposed to head back to north jersey on saturday to drink with the buddies, and watch the fiance's ride her horsey in a championship show on sunday. In between, Dark Souls, Rage, CoD, and some editorial writing.

I've been waging an epic battle with a cold/nasal infection/bronchitis thing for the last week or so. It's looking like I might actually come out on top, so here's to hoping that trend continues through to the weekend.

A nice calm weekend to myself with NO HOMEWORK and NO IN-LAWS and NO PARTIES.

Homework and parties resume again on the 21st. 21st-30th is like one giant ass party with homework assignments squeezed in.

In-laws won't be seen again until next month.

Let's see...today there's nothing going on; it's an oddly warm rainy fall day; my wife is going to a concert this evening. Tomorrow I'm going to a gym in Connecticut for parkour training; Sunday we're going up to my wife's sister's place and I'm gonna cut up a tree that fell during the hurricane.

I'll be helping my brother tear up my grandfather's concrete patio and replace it with a brick patio, probably in a herringbone pattern. I also have to put in a new bathroom fan at home, and seed the lawn.

Sunday will be recovery, football, and some gaming in the evening.

Today is our wedding anniversary, but we celebrated last weekend. Sick took today off though and we've been enjoying a truly relaxing day. I've been working on getting pieces of my costume ordered (yay!) and Ashe's costume just came in the mail. He's going as Link (he is sooo freaking cute except he keeps running up to me and calling me Zelda instead of Mom). I just need to make a Navi to sit on his shoulder and he's good to go.

Tomorrow we hit the costume shops and get everyone else taken care of. We'll also grab some decorations and get this house in order for Halloween. Sunday I plan on doing a whole lot of nothing Smiley: grin

A girl in our high school took one of those field hockey clubs to the jaw during a game. Not only did it break her jaw (which had to be wired shut), 3/4 of her face was a bright purple shade for the next week. Horrible.

I've warned Charmaine of what can happen on the field. She knows she's risking losing gigs if something happens on the field. But since she's still a kid and she's not pursuing the entertainment industry full time to pay bills and make a living, I'm not concerned. She wants to have fun, so let her have fun.

And now, I'm sure I've jinxed myself with that statement. The moment she gets cast for some major project is the moment she ends up with black eye and a missing tooth.

Really need to start watching Fringe. I've seen about half of the first season, but haven't had any money for any of the seasons, nor do I own a computer onto which it can be downloaded.

Today was my last day at my terrible job. Went in hung over... wine sucks. Store manager pissed me off by making one of the female managers cry over nothing serious. Guess it makes people feel big to verbally abuse others. /shrug

Really, sticks (not clubs, sticks) should never go much higher than waist height, the ball almost never passes knee height.
The only serious danger is with penalty corners when you get near professional level play. Of course there's some accidents but I've only seen something bad happen once in 10 years of playing.

That said, that was a guy who got the ball straight in the nuts. It hurt just to see it.

I see. I've always had no problem going up to the mid 60's by just plugging in directly. Well it's good to know that they won't charge extra for a basic box, I guess I'll zip on over to the office sometime this week.

Guys play field hockey?
Yes they do. At least in the Netherlands, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, India, China, South Africa and Pakistan. (And some other countries as well, but I think I've got most of the big countries covered)

It's not related to schools, but there's an 8-10 week break in the winter and something similar in the summer.
And over here hockey is kind of the rich kids sport.

Do the same people play ice hockey and field hockey? Do they just shift seasons? I'm totally ignorant about this.
