Here is a story straight from Qufim Island. Now I'm no pro, i'm still a newbie by most measures. But certain things should be common sense I would think. I was in a pt a nin as tank, my taru butt as mnk, a thf, a sam, red as healer and blm. To maximize damage (and because it is good practice i think) I told the sam and I to do one skillchain and the nin + thf to alternate with another, having the blm magic burst for that extra damage. We were fighting clippers and worms, nothing too crazy, but clippers take a while to die with such a high def at our level.
Anyway, Things are going well. Sam and I do Fragmentation, blm learns how to burst thunder. crabs were dropping like flies. Then the blm goes noob on us. Whle the group is waiting for the puller to return with a crabby, the blm runs off. He starts to 'solo' a worm. worm checks at VT.
I say "double pull?" but the puller already returns with the crab (we are NOT near this worm, healer couldn't do double duty). I then say, "<blm name>, are you ok? we are fighting a crab" His response is "no problem, I can solo this worm". someone in pt gives a ":-/".
Well we fight our battles. the blm health is a steady drop, with some heals he casts himself, then he dies before we can finish the crab. The crab goes down.
blm <read noob> didn't get reraise from book. We start /sh for a raise. He gets his own to come out. now, the noob gets noobier.
He gets healed, and is resting. Less than 1 minute after his raise we pull a crab while he is resting as we can take it out without him. I see him be next to healer, out of harms way. Healer pulls aggro for a sec, but nin/war provokes it back. We start skillchaining the crab, nin-thf do theirs, then sam and I do mine. Noob magic bursts it. crab runs over to the weakened noob, i mean blm, and one hit kills him again. LESS THAN 3 MINUTES from last death. I offer the advice "Plz try not to magic burst while weakened, pulls aggro" He goes back to hp and shops, but stays in party. We stay and finish the page.
Common sense people! Another thing, maybe for another thread. i'm still new to the game, but I see no real disadvantage to using skillchains. it seems likeI am pulling teeth trying to get people to want to do it, in dunes and at Qufim. I'm only level 35 (as of yesterday) so i haven't been in other areas to know their receptiveness. Why the aversion to skillchains?
