I am also a returning player with a new character. I played from the time the game released in America on PC up unitl right before Treasures came out. Then I stopped. When I decided to come back, I had to start over.
I have started a LS that focuses on the fun/social aspect of the game, especially for those with limited play time. It is called "CasualOnlinePlayerS" (abbreviated COPS). There is a post here on Allakhazam and also a guild site at GuildPortal.com. (Just search: "CasualOnline").
There is another member that is also a returning player. I will try to contact you in game. Feel free to contact me whenever I'm in game. And when I'm in game, I am on the ls. So, if you join, you will always know when I am on.
And if you join another LS but need help or info, feel free to ask me anytime I'm in gmae, or on here.

I am sorry for treating you the way I did as Mokatu. I had to work with the council and they were always one-sided. At first I tried to change things so that the VKLS began to glimmer brighter, but.. the leaders wanted to no part of it and left.
I can see why you, and so many others were so dissappointed in me. I hope things go well with you over on Pheonix. Just do me a favor; I am still getting over the whole collapse of the linkshell and having to end the life of Mokatu, and VKLS and Mokatu both have a special place because they have been a part of my life for a very long time, and not all was bad I can assure you.

Mokatu?
I remember you. I joined VKLS a few years back briefly before I initially cancelled my account. I remember the Linkshell had quite a few people ranging from noobs right on up to sort of end-gamers. The names I remember off hand are Aedues(sp?? he was a higher lvl PLD) and Turtle something? I remember you too because I used to frequent our webpage.
I have nothing but fond memories of my time in that LS. You seemed like a positive, knowing leader, who was always setting up LS events and helping the lower level players get things done.
I have no idea what has gone wrong and why you needed to start again, but that said, I am in Klif's COPS linkshell( I rarely get on to play these days, and when I do I am usually assisting my noob friends who just started playing). My account was saved, so I am still on as Prax, so perhaps I will see you in game and can help you out if need be.

I will tell you what happened to the VKLS when I see you online. It's a long and drawn out story but I tried to work the shell an entirely new way and the leadership didn't like my ideas and bailed on me.
