Have all new non-premium posters be required to use a Captcha in order to post. Once they have reached 30 or 50 posts the Captcha requirement would be removed (not sure if this can be automated). Of course premium posters would not be affected by this requirement.

I don't think it's really necessary, and it would essentially kill our chances of getting new users to use the forum., We ban things pretty quickly for the most part when they need banning.

Do they not use a Captcha on account creation already? I mean, you'd slow down an individual spammer's ability to multipost with the more invasive Captcha, but I rarely see more than a half dozen or so posts per spammer anyway.

How many of those are bots though, versus actual person spammers?

Man, I sure would love to have to refresh a Captcha 15 or so times until there's a readable one every time I want to post for 30 posts. I'd surely stick around the forum.

The recent OOT spammers were a total of 5 accounts which each posted a few dozen topics one right after the other, each slightly altered to escape the duplicate thread catcher. Unless we implemented captcha on every post, which would instantly kill the forum dead, captcha would have had almost no effect We do need to figure out a way to move those threads elsewhere without leaving a "thread moved" placeholder. Necropost killer will send it back in time to it's origin, but it won't remove it from the page entirely.

Yes, we have a time machine.

What ever happened to the Volunteer Mod idea? I mean that could help, make it so like under 10 post can be temp banned til its verified by a Admin. maybe put in place something like it needs to be reported 5 times before a volunteer mod could temp ban that would stem any abuse. maybe an idea?

Edit:I mean you're never going prevent it completely even with capcha and stuff they will still post.

An EU based mod would help. Those threads stay up a long time if they're posted in the morning for me.

yeah they often strike late at night when only people in Europe and sleepless canucks like me are up.

Also I agree that the captcha is a bad idea. I hate that crap. It would drive away new users.
