Arent the shadows static? They always remain in the same position? I never noticed might look into it next time I log in. If so would you all be fine with static shadows in the enviroment? Or is there gonna be an outcry of "the shadow of the crag is always in the same position!!!"?
No, shadows on the PCs, NPCs, and mobs aren't completely static. They change a little with the angle of the sun. Watch your shadow at sunrise or sunset; it'll flip sides and warp as the sun or moon rises or sets.
Haven't had a chance to check that out. Got on for few hrs to merit and didn't remember. Saturday, if I don't forget again, will sit somewhere and watch the shadows. Already figured they moved a bit, but also though that panning the camera would cause that shift.
They actively follow the sun and active light sources perfectly. In Port Jeuno for instance, when you get out of the moghouse, there's a light just above the stairs. If you stand infront of it, facing it, your shadow is behind you. When you stand under it, your shadow is right beneath you, and when you walk past it, your shadow shifts to go infront of you. Moves around again when you get to the next light. Then fades when you walk outside through the arch from the inner to outer part of Port Jeuno, due to the massive amount of sunlight, it just gets really opague, and once you are in the outside part of Port Jeuno, it follows the sun perfectly. Like aiming at it directly.
Like i said. Shadows are coded in perfectly for PC's, NPC's and monsters. Atleast if you set them to detailed. I was surprised by this too. But then walk up to the nearest lamp post or wall, nothing there. It's a real shame ._.
