Everyone loves dressing up for the holidays, right? What, you don't? Don't you go to Halloween parties at least? Fine, you'll at least dress up your kids. What are the ideas for the holiday? Also, want to help me decide on something? I actually plan on going out this Halloween (usually I just dress up cheaply and wander around town) and I want an actual costume. Right now I have two ideas: Will Schuester from Glee, or a Mormon missionary. Each have pros and cons: costs are probably under $100 for both (the Glee costume might be more; need a sweater vest and some hair styling). But I'm also open to other ideas; so dish, what costumes are you setting up this season?

A coworker told me he was dressing up as Ichigo from bleach and asked me if he could borrow his sword which I had made a couple years ago. I jokingly said I was going to dress up as a hollow and he said great idea. I am in the middle of making the mask and a large articulated hand.

Also, avoid the Mormon Missionary.

I like the LDS missionary idea. I wonder if I can talk my buddies into getting me a name tag (do they really wear those?).

Why not a Mormon missionary, by the way? It's an easy costume, reusable (name tag excluded), and pretty likely to get a reaction. Also it gives me cause to burst into songs from "The Book of Mormon" hit Broadway musical when I get drunk enough!

I am going to dress up as Corey Taylor. I've already got the jumpsuit now all I need is his old school Ghost Glow mask. I like his newer masks but the old school is my favorite. I can't decide if I wanna do the dreads or the rainbow hair. The dread mask will be easier to find but I am really liking the rainbow hair. We'll see.

I highly doubt I'll be at any parties with religious Mormons (the ones I know personally don't drink, not sure if that's true of the entire religion), but you do have a point.

That's awesome. :P

Are you going as a specific hollow, or just your own design? There's literally an option for every body type...

I think he is doing the executioner grounds with the brown "cape". The sword he is borrowing is his Shikai, heavy though as it is 1 peice of solid oak. I will find a picture of the costume I wore with it a few years ago and put here.

This was 4 years ago

I am making my own design, I have taken a few pictures of the mask and splattered on my facebook while I am working on it, none of the hand yet.

Last year, an ex-coworker of mine got married the day before Halloween, and her wedding reception was a costume party. Thanks to the generosity and quick thinking of another coworker, I went to the reception as Mario. I tried to convince my wife to go as Peach, but we couldn't find an appropriate blonde wig in time, so she threw on her old prom dress and just went as Daisy (ironically, the one Mario series character she hates).

Since we'll be allowed to wear costumes at work again this year, I'm going as Mario again. The guy who bought the hat and fake mustache for me may end up being Luigi, as he's taller and considerably skinnier than I am.

Now if I could just convince this one guy to be Wario...

In the Catholic church where I grew up, we were encouraged to celebrate All Saints Day and dress up as our favorite saints at church instead.

When I was ten, though, some of the kids got really creative and gory with the martyrs, so that was the last year of that.

Story of Peter Louis Mary Chanel, Priest wrote:
Peter Chanel was a model pupil, model vicar, model parish priest, and model missionary. He began life as a shepherd to his father's sheep. The Abbé Trompier of the parish of Cras, however, recognized the intelligence and devoutness of the young boy and obtained permission to have Peter attend the small school he had started. Peter performed well and went on to the seminary.

After his ordination in 1827, he was given the parish of Crozet, which had earned a bad reputation. Over three years, his attendance to the sick gained the confidence of the parishioners and brought about a spiritual revival.

In 1831, wishing to become a missionary, the peasant's son was one of the first to join the missionary Society of Mary which was formed at Lyons, France, in 1822, but taught another five years in the seminary of Belley. In 1836, the Marists received papal approval, and Peter was sent with a small band of missionaries to New Hebrides in the Pacific. With a lay-brother and an English layman, Thomas Boog, Peter went to the Islands of Futuna, under French sovereignty near Fiji, where cannibalism had only recently been forbidden by the local ruler, Niuliki.

The missionaries gained the confidence of the people by attending the sick, learning the language, and beginning to teach. The chieftain Niuliki became jealous of their influence, however, and was further angered when his own son said he wished to be baptized. Three years after his arrival, when his companions were away, Peter was attacked by a band of warriors who killed him with a club and cut up his body with their hatchets.

His martyrdom served his cause, however, for within a few months the island was Christianized. When called upon to justify his conversion, one of Chanel's catechumens had said of him, "He loves us. He does what he teaches. He forgives his enemies. His teaching is good."

Because he was the first martyr of the South Seas, Peter Chanel is the patron of Oceania.

Born at Cluet, near Belley, France, in 1803; died on Futuna, Oceania, in April 28, 1841; canonized in 1954.

I can't understand anyone who skips the cutscenes of a Final Fantasy game. That's like going to Texas and not getting barbecue.
