I have been immunized!

At first I thought I'd have to go through the whole titre mess because I had no records of my childhood vaccinations, but the university said they had my junk on record from undergrad so the only thing I needed was Tdap since I hadn't had that since 1994. Smiley: rolleyes

I didn't even notice the actual shot, but now my entire arm hurts like hell. I forgot about that part...

Any suggestions? Normal painkillers are not yet helping. Smiley: frown

Alcohol.

If that doesn't work, try a ball gag.

I think I'm technically supposed to get TDap sometime soon. Maybe next year at the latest?

I don't know if an anti-histamine tablet would work for TDAP. It works for the bad itchy pain after my desensitisation shots.

I think I got that, along with a cocktail of five or six other needles worth of shots in February. I stopped keeping track.

I imagine military service members need update vaccines for just about everything, no? At least for those areas where they might be deployed, since you need them a certain amount of time in advance so your immune system can adjust.

Yeah, my mother (who was a WAC, back when those existed) got titers done once and they said she was pretty much immune to everything they could give immunizations for, and quite a few things they couldn't. Even as an Army dependent, I was covered when I went to uni the first time.

Tdap is the only one you need to really worry about, and even then, only once a decade. Other than that, it's normal flu shots once a year and you're done. Once you turn 60 I think they start worrying about varicella (shingles), though.

The pain has now invaded my upper right back. Smiley: glare This calls for another shot - of rum.

I've never actually gotten a flu shot.

And thinking about it, that's pretty stupid of me, since I tend to get the flu at least once a year.

I need to get my old (hilariously Soviet) vaccination pass. I need to renew some of my vaccines and get a couple of new ones and I don't know which ones I have had done or which ones have run out by now.

I have a fairly good idea for most of them and I know I am missing a rather important one, but I'd like to have records so I can get the ones done that I actually need.

Also, I've done most vaccinations at least twice (some of them I had to repeat once within a couple of months because the US clinic wouldn't accept my Soviet-y records), and they never did Tdap in one sitting. In fact, they never did percussis period, I just got it.

Random side note: I know someone who had typhoid as a child once.

I don't normally bother with flu shots or updating vaccinations. I know that my measles vaccination was still working up to a decade or so ago (rare case of measles transplanted from Europe, and I picked up patient X at the airport. It's fun when the CDC calls you at work and tells you not to interact with anyone "just in case"). They did kinda made me get a bundle of whatever prior to my trip a year and a half ago. Don't know what all was in it, but my arm was sore for about a day. Not so bad though.

Alcohol is definitely a good idea though!

Vaccines I definitely need by December: T/d, polio, typhoid, hep A
Vaccines I want by December: TB, hep B, cholera, rabies, Japanese encephalitis

I know I have TB, I was meant to get tested for hep B antibodies last month but they messed up the test, I am pretty sure I was immunised against Tetanus and Diphtheria twice in 2004, but I know I'm missing some of the other ones, including cholera and rabies and the cholera one is one that takes multiple courses and that I consider really important.

Might get MMR renewed, too.

And I don't even have health insurance until September... this is going to be stressful as hell.

Amazingly, my health insurance is sane and is classifying today's shot as "routine wellness care" and I didn't even have to pay a copay. Surprised the heck out of me.

I guess it's cheaper for them to pay $50 for a shot today than $50,000 for a tetanus infection in two years.

That's awesome. Good to hear that not everyone over there has awful health insurance.

Let me clarify here: I do have health insurance, but due to the fact that my doctors abroad have to check with two countries' health insurance policies it'll take longer to get anything done.

I got my Tetanus update covered by workman's comp. I cut my head open on a piece of sheet metal at work, went to the clinic, told them I couldn't remember when the last time my shot was (sometime in the early 90s, I think. Last time I had a serious metal-related injury as a child). They shot me up. Then workman's comp covered it all.

I refused to get a flu shot until they mixed H1N1 in. I ended up getting the flu about two months after getting the shot. I had to call in sick January 3 earlier this year because I had a ridiculous flu start December 30.

That pretty much sums up my luck since I hadn't had the flu for several years.

This morning I woke up with severe vertigo, the transient kind that goes away when you shake your head. It felt like I had just stepped off a merry-go-round that had been flying along for five minutes steadily.

If it happens again I'm going to urgent care and since it happened within a week of getting the shot they're gonna have to treat it as an adverse event. Smiley: bah
