What would you like to see for your job: Bard Edition!Follow

#1 Sep 29 2012 at 3:08 PM Rating: Excellent
Since the job forums have been pretty inactive for awhile, I thought I'd start a new topic in each devoted to things you'd like or wish that Square Enix would do with each job. They can be legitimate things you'd like to see, or they could be absurd, and, while they can be, they don't have to be any serious or groundbreaking changes you think each job needs, just something you think would improve them a bit in some form. Just try to keep the topic clean and drama free (emphasis on try). Just have some fun with this and let your ideas soar.

Though it's probably take a bit for them to do since it'd mean reworking every song's effect, I'd like to see each type of song with its own actual music when it's being played. When in the casting animation, you couldn't actually tell what song is being played since Marches sound like Minuets and Madrigals sound like Mambos. The actual tunes played for each song isn't different whatsoever, and I think changing it so they did reflect the song cast would be interesting.

I'd like another unique debuff. Nocturne could theoretically be nice if Addle didn't exist. My personal preference would be some kind of subtle blow, virus, or magic defense down.

Massacre Elegy.

I would like to be able to overwrite songs easier. Right now my buffs last 4:24 and I can't overwrite a song with itself unless it has been up for 2:24. It would be nice to simply be able to overwrite songs immediately.

That's pretty much it. Overall I'm as satisfied with the job as ever, but if I didn't have Daurdabla I probably wouldn't want to play the job.

Four new meritable songs:

Energetic Canticle: A single target regain song. Unlocking to level 1 increases amount of tp regained by 1, capping at 5 tp/tick for level 5. It'd be so very very broken that it will never happen, but...

Taciturn Aria: An AOE sneak song. Level 1-5 adds five seconds extra duration on top of the normal song length (mine is also around four minutes these days.) Most of us would leave it at level one since this already beats out Spectral Jig, although it won't be quite as long in duration as a modern WHM's sneak and invis.

Covert Aria: An AOE invisible song. Same stuff as the Sneak song.

Altana's Hymnus: An AOE reraise II song. Zombie fighting with Goddess Hymnus can take a hit on your exp when used repeatedly. Level 1 unlocks, level 2-5 takes off 15 seconds of weakness. I'd take this to level 3 for 4.5 minute weakness.

I've never done much zombie fighting with goddess hymnus... except once when we got crummy TE pulls in dyna windurst... a lot of angry yagudo...

Um, make getting colourless souls suck less - that would be a good start. Maybe have them drop off a few more things? Frankly locking most of the job's potential behind getting a d-harp was a bad decision, so they should make it a little less tedious to get one. Same deal with pld and their shields.

The other empy nms generally drop things you can use to entice people to help you - not so much the nms that drop souls.

I agree on the unique debuffs issue - it really sucks that they gave us nocturne then gave addle to whm and rdm as well, and made it unstackable. BOO.

Regain song would be nice but it will never be allowed to be 5 tp a tic, lol

Maybe a new level of march that is so strong we only need to have 1 march on to max out the haste we can give... maybe? Just so I can sing something else? Please?

Another level of ballad. Just because.

..Because blasting away on your trumpet is an effective way to avoid being detected by sound...

In all seriousness though it would be useful.

Well the way I view it, songs motivate people to be stronger, more precise... Why not motivate people to be quieter?

How to justify an invisibility song though...

I'd like to be able to issue mobs charmed with maiden's virelai basic commands like "fight" or if not, at least have them start attacking when I attack something.

Also, I'd love it if some of the more useless songs could not overwrite the good ones. Like would it really be gamebreaking to allow us to have say, goblin gavotte up with double march? probably not. Would be cool if spells were in different categories and we could have 2 general buffs (refresh, regen, haste, attack, def) one elemental resist and one debuff resist up at once without a 99 d harp

I guess that would make us better but I find brd a lil wee bit underpowered atm, maybe just cause I don't have a d-harp

I would like a song that, looking back on older Final Fantasy's, does among other things:

Confuse ("Alluring Air" from V) - Because it would be fun. Occasional self-damage on auto-attack?

Stun/Stop/Petrify ("Romeo's Ballad" from V) - Wouldnt be called ballad, but i imagine a sharp sound should be perfect to shock something into not attacking for a turn or two.

A Critical Hit boosting song? After all, inspiring music should make people try harder.

A song that silences the target - That shouldnt be so impossible really. Sound is just an airwave. Plus i imagine there's a lot of music that could leave someone speechless for a little bit. I imagine a harsh resisting effect after one or two songs of this, since something cant stay amazing and bedazzling if you keep hearing it.

A song that restores HP, MP or Both not gradually, but a small chunk upon completing the cast. Doesnt even have to be AoE. Lets say... 50 HP, 20 mp? Just to give Bard something to do after it did it's buffs and has to wait three or so minutes till it has to recast. Sure, you have a subjob for cures and stuff, but that's not really bardly.

Bard is suffering from one thing and that is solo ability. It's buffs simply don't make it strong enough to successfully solo or make a dent in small groups. I've proposed a couple additions to bards exisitng abilities. Allow requiem songs to stack, and Not wake mobs slept by lullaby. Making it the only DoT that can do this.

1. Add more charm songs that work on beastmen, and undead. Bard should be able to control them for short periods of time to fight for him. Starting at level 30, and getting one every 15 levels. Some doing different things. Minimum time a charm works is 5 minutes, target gets more resistant to it. By the 5th usage target becomes 100% resistant. Also, do away with exp loss for charmed mob. 200 exp from a tricked minion isnt game breaking or ground breaking. Killing it after charm wears off should be fair exp.

2. Confuse songs - Target attacks itself and whatever else that's in range. Good for after sleeping, casting confuse then using a dia to wake it up and watch it attack nearest target. But once someone melees the target, confuse wears off. Should get a single target and an AoE version of this. target can remained confused while under the effect of charm.

I'd like BRD to get some stronger base weaponskills. Energy steal or whatever the **** it is called, that's bogus. I mean, I am doing extenerator, but I shouldn't need a merit weaponskill to kill trash fodder

With 2013 behind us and 2014 just starting, what would you like to see come to the Bard job? Has Adoulin changed your favorite minstrel in a way that you do or don't like? Is there an unresolved issue that you think they still need to fix?
