Landing Elegy on ChariotsFollow

The problem tends not to be with what gear you have, but rather, what cells your team has deemed fit to provide the bard with. Unless you're doing Bhaflau Remnants and trying to kill Mad Bomber, as a bard, you're going to spend the majority of Salvage half-naked. Sure, your head/neck slot gives you a good skill buff and means you'll be able to land Elegy better, but that head/neck slot would do the team a lot more good on one of the melee.

A bard can do just fine in salvage with nothing more than magic, weapon, abilities, subjob, HP, MP, and ranged weapon. Team leaders know this, which is why BRD tends to be the last on every single piece of gear besides ranged.

If this is the case, and he's getting shafted on gear, the best thing I can suggest would be:

- Bring in a 68 gil chai to pop for CHR+2
and
- Sing the CHR song to yourself before attempting to land Elegy

And try to coerce your salvage team leader into farming you a body piece and legs/feet, at the very minimum.

Sometimes, and I say only sometimes... group leaders are not aware of how much gear affects mage jobs. Especially if they are of melee bent. Ensure you let them know the key pieces you need. Weapon/Ranged and some skill gear goes a long way.
