I played FFXI since release and I stopped playing in 2007 sometime (a couple months after the Treasures of Aht Urhgan released).
I played a Bard most of the time which is still Lv.62.
Anyway, I was wondering how much the game has changed from the perspective of Bards since 2007-ish. I saw the Pianissimo ability and my jaw dropped! That seems like something that would change how Bards play completely?
And I heard there were treasure caskets you get from mobs that give you armor/items?
How much has the game changed since I last played? Thanks for any answers I get!

Shhhh! Don't talk about Pianissimo. Keep it a secret that we can give people their own specific Bard song buffs. If you start doing that before long everyone in the party will want their own specific songs and you will never be able to keep up with them all.
But it is still nice to have. I usually limit it to one or two party members at most. Usually if there is only one caster I'll use Pianissimo for mage ballad, or if a some other class wants a specific buff that helps them more then the basic minuet/madrigal combo like a Ranger.

Also, I am recently back to FFXI too after quitting in 2005, so what all is new to me might of been around in 2007 so bear with me.
Newest thing is the level sync ability to lower the party's level to make every one match up. The thing that you have to worry about is keeping a macro book for every 10 levels so that if you sync to a lower level party you don't have to spend 30 min figuring out what songs you can sing. I have one for levels 20,30,40,50,60 so far and in each one I only have songs that I can sing in that level range. It took a while to do at first but it has saved me so much time in the long run.
Extra macro books is something new to me too. Can have like 20 of them now.
