Gaiters quest

Do I have to do the Beast Collar portion of the quest, or is it optional (or needed for future quests)? I've been farming the key for several hours now and no luck with drop (using RDM?THF if it matters). I haven't done the Fei ' Yin portion yet, just thought I'd get the key for now and come back for chest later.

You need to do the beast collar portion of the quest. It is not optional.

Dont quote me, its been a while since I did it and I could be totally wrong. But I think you can pick that chest as THF and still get the collar, it saves lots of wasted time farming keys.
