Buncha ingrates. Why don't y'all go jump off a balloon 37km in the air, huh?!
DO EET.

You know what'd be an even cooler record? If an eel skydived from 37km up. In a little eel hovercraft. Now that would be impressive.

I've been wondering this for a while- why do 1TB HDDs cost around $90, but 2TB is around $110?

I don't know much about bad sectors and drive failure rates, but other than having everything on a single drive, is there an added risk with a larger HDD? or is it simply just that cheap to add more disk space without significant problems?

No, Xeon is the best processor for my build at that price. Hyperthreading > integrated graphics. Why get a less capable processor at the same price?* Granted the i5 can be overclocked, but I'm not really looking towards that. then I have to get cooling and stability issues etc. Gonna take a fair amount of OC for it to equal the hyperthreading capability of Xeon.

Also no, 650 is perfect for my needs and budget. I'm not looking to do any extreme gaming with this. It happens to be quite a good GPU for Adobe software - until going up to the 660. But that's like... twice as much for a very minimal difference in render times.

Yeah, he's about as despicable as a villain can get, which both excites me for this season and kind of worries me because I'm almost certain they won't be able to cover most of it.

hyperthreading is entirely overrated (can actually slow a processor down depending on the task being worked on), and overclocking is stupid easy (my i5 is at 4.8GHZ completely stable on a 72 hour prime 95 test)

Nvidia is getting worse and worse on compute heavy tasks, if u want performance in adobe programs get an AMD card
see here http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-680-review-benchmark,3161-15.html

the 650 is still a sh*t card, for everything

This just in. It's 2002 again.

Still, you're buying a server processor. That's just silly. It's like buying a diesel car and trying to race it.

Hyperthreading has gotten better, but still ten years later isn't really applicable to anything but a server and massive parallel processing environment where you have... you know... multi-threaded applications. As it stands you might have two threads in a game, one for the game and one for asynchronous texture streaming, while all the physics and stuff is just being pushed to the GPU.

Raw parallelism thus belongs in your GPU. Get something better than a 650 just for the higher shader/cuda core count, because that's where parallelism actually happens in anything but a server environment and why you don't need a f*cking overpriced hyperthreading server processor. That's why ATI has pulled ahead in performance as well: Games are pushing more and more shader-based effects and microphysics that require lots of parallel processing, so cramming more shader cores in your GPU is garnering more performance than operations per clock (which is the NVidia mantra).

So like a total derp, you're buying that Xeon processor for the supposed reasons you should actually be picking a better GPU.

I was gonna go with just the one line of snark, but realized you're truly making a terrible decision.

This is a far better point than how I was making it

but to elaborate

If you are doing something that hits two cores (like most tasks) they will get pushed on one core and one hyperthread, and actually be slower than on a processor without hyperthreading (see i5 2500k versus i7 2600k reviews)

Most heavy lifting done outside of games hits 4 cores, and once again, on an HT processor it uses 2 cores and 2 hyperthreads, whereas without the hyperthreading itll use 4 physical cores (this would be the scenario for adobe programs)

then finally, on heavily paralleled tasks, the hyperthreaded processors truly shine, however this is limited to some media encoding programs (which could be useful to an end user) and server tasks (for the most part anyway)
