Oh yeah, Milich, you live in the NE right? Do you know any good belgium beer bars in Manchester or Boston?
manchester... which state? near manchester, CT, there's
the half door in hartford. 2 hours away from manchester VT is waterbury VT, which has some of the best bars around (e.g.
prohibition pig, which while not explicitly belgian would have some belgian beers, + amazing pale ales from hill farmstead, alchemist, lawson's finest). manchester NH... the only thing i know about NH is portsmouth brewery (a nationally renowned brewpub; they make "kate the great").
boston is loaded with excellent bars. the best place for beer is
cambridge brewing company (they do several belgian styles, as well as american / british / other).
nearby
lord hobo is also awesome.
the
mead hall is supposed to be good (tons of taps, not always the same level of quality as lord hobo, publick house, deep ellum, etc)
deep ellum in allston is great (taco place next door is excellent too, and has same owners so good beer--but taco pairing oriented, so like smoked beers and wheat beers generally)
publick house in brookline has great food, smaller selection of beer but often finer beers
sunset in allston has tons of taps, better food than deep ellum, not as good beer usually and notoriously hit or miss service (i've sat there over an hour waiting for waitresses to return)
redbones occasionally has great beer on tap. very popular spot for a long time. i think the BBQ is wayyyy overrated (ate there in between bouts of vegetarian and found all the meat to be dry)
green street's a nice place.
boston's too big a beer city to have explicitly belgian beer bars, if that makes sense... you expect quality belgian beers to be available at lord hobo and the like, as well as the top IPAs and stouts and american wild ales and (etc), plus locals like pretty things. would be hard to charge the necessary premium for the better belgian imports and still get customers in boston.
in NYC there's
burp castle, one of my favorite bars. small, bartender shooshes everyone if they get too loud, 80+% belgian beer. jimmy's next door is very good too.
