I'd recommend using the torrent found here when it comes to updating, you can bet it's going to be a lot faster than SE's system.

I doubt it makes a difference. Worst case, if you're missing a few EU specific files (assuming there even are any?), the POL updater will download them, but it'll be an insignificant number of files.

Regardless of regional version, POL will still run a file check and probably download a few hundred files missing from the most recent update.

I'd actually have to download the torrent to be certain, but using other FFXI torrents, typically it's a zip file containing the same file structure as the PlayOnline directory.

In my case, I typically unzip the files then just drag and drop everything into C:\Program Files (x86)\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI, but your directory may be different. Then it's as simple as saying "merge and overwrite everything."

If you're uncertain about using NA files, I'm sure you could find a torrent for the full EU FFXI game.

I don't think that includes POL updates, but I don't think it's a very big update either.

i'm not entirely sure (but pretty sure) that when relax was an uppity noob, he just posted as if he was old guard already. doing so caused him to immediately be treated as old guard.

there's a forum dynamics lesson there: want to be "old guard"? lurk awhile, figure out how to post, then immediately post as if you were always there. i went from anonymous uppity poster to old guard pretty much immediately myself.

(or, of course, you could not care about forum dynamics and post however you want--which is actually what i do/did. however, it's very clear if you watch how noob/old guard interaction works on gaming and other sites that new people pretending to be have been around forever generally works as long as their posts don't contain stupidity that betrays their noobishness. it's best not to test it--no referring to yourself as old guard, or questioning the credibility of actual old guard--but after even a month of quiet "i've been here forever" posting you'll probably be able to test it. join date can always make a big difference when testing it as well. it's probably a good idea to have some strategies for dealing with the backlash; e.g. "my arguments are valid, even if i joined 3 months ago! look at this logic: [A B C]" is NOT a good strategy. don't refer directly to join date.)

I had an account already, with like 3k posts. I didn't like that it was tied to my old email and used my regular handle instead of something related to my character. It definitely wasn't because people were gloating constantly about rating me down at every opportunity at the time.

I derped, 1100 posts. 3k is probably what I had 'total' at some point and the number stuck in my head.

Th transfer fee applies to an entire account, so you can transfer all of your mules.

Sh*t, all you had to do was say something. I'm back with my old crew now that a particular douche is gone for good.

Im currently logged into both FFXIV and Tera, and then I have my FFXI main account that gets the most use, and my FFXI backpack WHM account, they all get play

Well thank @#%^ I left the game if that's the kind of crap they're peddling now.

Honestly, SE gives you guys a new class and a new island... whereas CCP give us updated missiles and reworked ships, including turning an otherwise lame-duck frigate into a sexy gunboat overnight. And give PvP an overhaul. And that's just from the most recent update.

Feck off, spaceships and quite possibly the most realistic MMO economy known to man beat running around with an oversized sword hitting things any day of the week. I get enough hitting-things-with-swords from Dragon Age and Skyrim.
