TP Gear: Which Legs?Follow

I have been using Royal Knight's breeches for TPing, but I was wondering if I could switch to the Valor breeches instead. This would at least save me 1 slot of inventory slot. No, I don't have Homam yet. No, I don't have Askar yet. Yes, if there any other suggestions besides the two I already have, I would love to hear them.

Thanks,

Aurum Cuisses? They look fugly, but the stats can't be argued with. Apart from that, I wouldn't kick you from a party for wearing either of the 2 options you currently have. I'm sure you're sick of hearing this, but yeah, Homam or Askar are definite improvements otherwise.

Aurum's definitely an option if you don't have Homam yet. There's also Dusk Trousers which are AHable. Valor Breeches really isn't a replacement for RK Breeches - it's good for end game tanking when you're worried about damage, but it has less of a place as a DD piece.

So essentially you don't think the Valor's 3 extra STR (and I guess 3 enmity) makes up for the 2 DEX and 3 Attack on the RKBs? I ask this because honestly 3 attack doesn't seem like that much. Just curious.

Honestly, no I don't. 3 STR is 1.5 attack (depending on how it truncates). You're also giving up 1 ACC which may or may not be a deal breaker. If we had a YGK equivalent, I'd consider it as a WS piece, but with Vorpal or Atonement being the big WS's a PLD has, we need either Acc (for Vorpal) or Enmity (current, not +Enmity pieces) to see that max return for the WS's. STR has a place, but there's better options.

Dusk Trousers offers +14 attack. That's a significant chunk and would be a worthwhile replacement for the RK Breeches. It's also purchasable on the AH which makes it a great choice to have in place of Valor (as opposed to the obviously better choices of Homam/Aurum which are R/E and can't be picked up at the corner shop).

I wouldn't hold it against someone, but I definitely don't see it as a meaningful improvement.

Homam is the top dog.

Askar and Aurum are seconds.

If your going with AH gear only, i think Dusk will be your best bet.

Thanks for everyone's input. I forgot about Aurum -- slipped my mind because I don't do ZNM so I don't really have a chance at those yet. I am going to go for Homam before Aurum anyways so I will just make due with RKB for now. I would upgrade to Dusk, but I am trying to save up for a Peacock Charm.

The subject of Aurum Cuisses (ACC+7 and ATT-4) got me thinking about something else. I have eyed the Settler's Cape at the AH a couple of times. The ACC+10 is a huge boost, but obviously the loss of 10 ATT is a big negative. If one would advocate using Aurum with its boost to ACC and decrease to ATT, wouldn't it also make sense to advocate the similar positive/negatives from a Settler's, at least in certain situations? My thought is that adding that much more ACC in a back slot would allow for ATT to possibly come from other slots, or that the boost in ACC would allow me to comfortably eat meat as a main source of +ATT.

Thoughts?

Aurum gives you +7 acc and -2 to atk ( remember, it gives +4 STR ) on a place where you dont really have anything outstanding before askar/homam.

Settlers is +10 for -10, on a place where you have a very good cheap choice ( Ammemmet +1 )

So no, i wouldnt consider settler`s

I've been basically fulltiming Valor legs since I got 'em since, like the OP, I didn't have Aurum/Homam/Askar/Dusk. They are reasonably good for tanking, and OK for /nin tanking (well -10% interrupt and +3 enm is better than nothing). Plus I was sick to death of RK breeches and Valor isn't much worse in the DD department. I finally got Askar Dirs so I'll be using them for DD from this point on.

I'd think Settlers might be good if you are in an HNM type situation trying to atonement spam (and therefore wanting to maximize acc), but at the same time NOT having any trouble hitting above zero. You'll have to ask people around here who do HNM's more than me how often that happens.

I hit things like Ultima and Jailers for 0 more often than I'd like, so I'd be hard pressed to pass up an Attack+ back piece for a Settlers.

Well like they said, Homam is one of the best TP pieces for your legs. Just make due with your current legs for now until you get your hands on askar/aurum or *gasp* homam legs. Making an upgrade from R.K legs to Dusk legs is a bit silly. You'd get more bang for your buck if you spent the gil elsewhere like putting it towards a PCC investment.

PS sup Draco :)

As far as "bang for your buck" goes, PCC is pretty damn inefficient when compared to Chiv. Chain.
