whm as subjobFollow

#1 Nov 15 2003 at 10:00 AM Rating: Default
I'm thinking of making a pally/whm, does snyone think this is a bad idea? the main reason i want whm as sub is for revive, which you can't get as pally. but will this make me suck physicaly? I still want to be a tank, and have the option to heal when i really need it, not a healer.
Also, I'm thinking about making the race Elvaan, any other suggestions?

Would be kinda dumb, because you couldnt provoke and your melee skills will just be gimped. Plus you already get white mage spells as a paladin.

I am planning to go this route. Yes you get some white mage spells as a Paladin. (About ten throughout your whole Paladin Career) Being a pure Paladin does not allow you to be anything but a backup Healer.

However if you use a White Mage as a subjob you will get the added magic points, regenerate magic points while not in rest, and get many many more spells then you would as a Paladin.

Paladins only get Cure, Protect, and light damage spells.

White mages get more effective versions of the above, and group healing spells, poison and parlysis removing spells, and Divine Seal which doubles the effictiveness of their next healing spells.

Paladin/Warrior is strong tank with backup healing and taunt (Which is valueable) many people will go this route.
Paladin/White Mage is a good tank with good healing. You can learn to keep agro without provoke by healing the person being attacked.

Paladin/White mage seems a much more interesting and capable class.

Someone mentioned to me that at high levels paladins can subjob white mage effectively, and keep spamming curaga to keep hate, but until you get quite far up there you probably won't have the mana to keep the mobs attention that way. At higher levels there are also armors which increase hate you can use. Here is my plan...

Warrior to level 18

subjob quest (actually took me til almost 20 but who's counting? :-)

White Mage/Warrior to level 15 (at 10/5 now)

Warrior/White Mage to level 30

paladin quest

Paladin/Warrior to some big level

and finally level up white mage to serve as an alternate subjob

I've also accidentally levelled thief up to 9 before I realized it had no place in my grand scheme :-)

thf is a good sub, though not one to use at all times. i lvled thf up to 5 and plan to take it to 15 in the future, with my lvl 30 war i go up into gheslba or giddeus to go gil hunting wich is very profitable at times. at lvl 5 you get gilfinder and at lvl 15 you get treasure hunter. i currently have a lvl 21 pld, and when i get short on cash i plan to take my pally when he is 30 instead of war and sub thf, (which will be lvl 15 by then) go to those areas an in no time you are up 5k or more. it is more effective you have have a party and everybody has thf as a sub or main job, the gil will add up quick if everybody splits up and kills all in sight. so lvls in thf is a good accident and should be used when u are strapped for gil.

A paladin without provoke is a really bad idea... paladins are tanks and need to be able to keep hate... without provoke you are almost useless as a tank... so only subclass worthwhile for paladin is warrior... Paladins can raise btw ... not till 75 though.

I just got PLD20/WAR10 and as far as I can tell the 'Defense Bonus' warriors get does not stack with the paladin one. Is this right? Subbing war gives me a single extra defense point.. I dont know what it gave me before so I dont know if this is the ability at work or not. But anyway it doesnt show up in my Job Ability window..

You get both. It only shows it once though.

So why is it 1 def? I thought it was supposed to be 10%.. when I sub war my def goes from 97 to 98.

Thats because both defensive boost skill are lvl 1. Its basically the same thing, and no it does not stack.
