Hi all I'm in the process to get my WAR to 90 (72 currently, whacking a Zhval Fortalice right now to get my GA skill to decent levels). My most recent purchase has been a Berseker's Axe, which, compared to what I see in the AH, may be one of the best Gaxes until 75 at least.
My ultimate goal at 90 is having a Widowmaker, but in the mean time, what can get me through the exp alliances and general seal farming etc without getting myself embarrassed? Trials that don't get much time to do and easy nm drops would be my favorite replies, but I'll take whatever is good enough to not suck ^^

Vermeil Bhuj off of Minhocao (the smaller, free-spawning NM Sandworm in Abyssea - Tahrongi) is a fairly good Great Axe to use in the interim from when it can be equipped to when you can obtain a Widowmaker if you're wanting to avoid Magian trials. While there are some other good non-magian great axes in between the Vermeil Bhuj and the Widowmaker as far as leveling goes, the Vermeil is still a strong enough weapon that it'll hold you over. The base damage is high for its level, the amount of +Str on it isn't anything to scoff at, and though it doesn't proc all that often, the Amnesia effect can be nifty at times.

Do not do the Atlas+1 fire route. Although it was easy except for the wamoura, Fire weather is almost non-existent in Vana'diel. Not even in the two places that look very hot. Limited time + 1 point for kill is a bummer.
As for the Vermeil bhuj, any well atma/geared bst can solo that sandworm w/ very little effort. Not to mention the axe looks cool.

I'll get Vermeil Bhuj then, thanks. And don't worry, when I asked about trials that don't consume much time I was thinking of the looong time it took me to get my Fire +2 H2H. I don't want to repeat that >_<
I remember doing Minohcao back in the day of the first abyss, with our full (now extint) HNMLS on it... But then again, we used 12-18 people for so many things that I consider now lolworthy that I don't think it'll be a problem if I go PUP and grab a friend or two.

Bumpity bump, but I need weapon advice. My perdu was neat about a year and a half ago. Is Widowmaker generally considered to be one of the best Great Axes outside of relic/mythic/empy stuff? I'd rather get something I can buy/camp on WAR rather than muck with magian trials since my WAR can barely solo a wet paper bag.

Yes. Widowmaker is best outside of an 85-90 Ukonsvara or Bravura. I don't know about mythic.
I'm working on Ukonsvara now after finishing my Empyrean gun for Corsair. What I do know is that I was able to keep up with warriors with slightly less equipment than me (+1 in a few slots vs. my full +2) using Raging Rush and Widowmaker versus their Ukko's Fury on the WOE path weapon. I would highly advise Widowmaker.

Uh....those WARs would have to suck massively for your RR to match their Ukko's Fury. Unless you're severely downplaying the difference in gear.

I think WoE Ukko's just isn't that great compared a non-WoE Ukko's with everything else, at least from what I've seen.
Maybe they do suck but the only thing that leads me to believe I could get better consistent damage is the legitimate Ukonsvara.

Raging shouldn't beat Ukko's on average unless they were incompetent, so I'm agreeing with Hex, those wars did suck. It's a smaller difference with Maschu than Ukon but it still beats out a Widowmaker assuming all other gear is the same by a margin. Of course, widowmaker's exact effect on DA is still unknown so perhaps it has half a chance.

WoE path WS vs a full Empyrean is virtually indistinguishable. Or, like I said, you party with some sh*tty WARs. Under no circumstances should RR be anywhere near Ukko's, and unless there's a severe difference in gear the WoE path WS will be basically the same as a full Empyrean. The main reason to fully upgrade is the Aftermath, not because the WS is better.

Is this really true? Do you have some evidence to back that up because once my VNMs are done, I could basically breeze right through to the Maschu since I already have the items saved up.

The only real difference is damage rating vs stat bonus/aftermath on Empyrean, Empyreans don't get a damage boost at 90 to the WS that Relics/Mythics get.
