I was thinking of going for the Ice and Thunder Trial of Magian Staves and should I upgrade the MAcc or MDmg, or Is there any other staves you recommend. Right now I'm saving for the Chatoyant staff, any help would be appreciated

Though some will be more effort to do (others more expensive), a Black Mage wanting to be the best he can be will want to go ahead and at the very least get all the Magic Damage staves (barring Light, since BLM gets no native light nukes outside of Luminohelix), as well as the Lightning Acc (for Stun), Dark Acc (for Sleep) and Ice Acc (for Bind, etc). For a more modest, more commonplace approach, doing the Fire, Ice, and Lightning Damage, and Lightning and Dark Acc would be pretty decent choices.

If you plan on doing other Mage jobs, you may want to look into doing some of the other Elemental Acc staves as well.

Out of curiosity Vlor, why fire damage and not dark damage?

For myself, I am working actively on an ice damage staff and thunder and dark damage staves will follow, I am also working on an Arka IV for low man where I fill a curing role. I haven't really thought about doing acc staves yet, but would probably do ice, dark, and thunder to start much as vlor stated.

I chose Fire since it's the third strongest nuking element we have (barring resist rates on mobs) and, while Dark is nice for things like Comet and Drain/Aspir, I use the former so little and the latter would be such small boosts in comparison, that I personally couldn't warrant making Dark damage over Fire damage.

Once I start the trial, do I need to finish it and talk to moogle or can I stay in that zone and log out and then come back whenever to complete trial?

The trial will remain on even if you log out or zone, so you can take as much time with it as you want to complete it.
