As a BLM how can I make decent exp in campaign? I find that when I nuke, I just end up spend the majority of the battle resting to get MP back, seems like a big waste of time, and exp doesn't seem to be too great if I just try to go around healing everyone. What do some of you other BLMs do?

Grab a scythe or a staff, and beat crap to death, spam drain/aspir, and cure as much as you can.

Doing Mass Sleepga / Sleepga II crowd control can net good points. I've found it works best vs. enemy groups who are spellcasters or ranged attackers (since these opponents generally will stand at range without interrupting you), and when there are only a modest number of other players in the zone. In between sleeps, you self-buff, Aspir, and depending on the situation maybe Cure other players or Nuke/Drain their targets for extra points.

It takes some practice and luck to be able to select your targets and maneuver into a good position where you can keep them held long enough. Reraise is absolutely necessary, as things can rapidly get out of hand. Always keep enough MP on hand to get RR up a second time, since after getting back up, sometimes mobs will run halfway across the field to gank you.

In addition, have patience with the other players in the area. Sometimes you may have a bunch of mobs that have been slept repeatedly, and a melee will run up and start smacking on it, without ever being able to (sometimes not trying) to get hate from you. All you can do is really try to keep yourself alive and somehow keep the rest of the mobs slept until you lose hate. And chuckle if you fail, because if he's still standing there smacking the mob, it will be a mess when the rest of the mobs wake up.

Definitely skill up your staff to at least into the 190s. I noticed a huge improvement in exp compared to just spamming enfeebs, mini nukes and cures.

What I do is:
A) Cure
B) DD with a Dagger instead of scythe/staff using as much haste gear as possible
C) Ocassional Nuke/debuff/aspir/drain

That seems to be working for me as long as campaign doesn't end in like 5-10 min.

What I do when I campaign on blm is I act like a DD. I go blm/dnc and get as much melee gear as I can.

Then, I melee the mobs. If the mob is something that will rape me when I am in range (like the Warmachine Orc NM), I can stand out of range and nuke it.

If you do a nice balance of spells and melee, you can get some nice exp.

Just remember that there are multiple exp categories that each have their own soft cap.

Dealing Damage
Receiveing Damage
Debuffing
Buffs/Cures
Fortifications

If you die, you will gain less exp for that than if you stayed alive, so try to keep that in mind. You will die on occasion, so make sure you keep RR up.

The best campaign exp that I find is doing an offensive battle when there are few people there. You can usually grab imps and work with them. I find that a combination of Box Step and Desperate Flourish will quite often break the imp's horn, preventing it from silencing you. The good thing about them is that if you are soloing, in the event you run out of MP, get low on HP, or things just get ugly, you can disengage and the imp will eventually disengage from you, which will allow you to heal without the death penalty. Then, if you are the only one at the offensive battle, you can continue to use the same mobs to increase your overall exp.

I think soloing is faster at some levels, but campaign can be a nice change of scenery for a little bit.

You can also net a lot of points by using your highest ga on a huge crowd of mobs, rr, repeat, and then while double weakened just cure people and melee. Can provide decent xp for spending 30 secs casting and then waiting for weakness in case you're doing something else at the same time.

You get ~10% xp from magic damage and only -60 per death, so depending on how much your gas do, you might be better off just dual ga-ing then supporting.

Were you a lower level you can just help cure people for decent points.

When you have people solidly tanking you can melee with a staff for spirit takers and then use /sch to pop off an AM every 2 minutes and just drain/aspir/tier1~2 while meleeing.

Basically you get xp per every action you take and for a percentage of the damage you deal. They have limits to how much you can do per category so you usually want to mix them up when you're in a long campaign.

I just leveled my BLM most of the way 66-75 (minus probably about 3 levels from random tiger PTs) in campaign. 70+ the best sub is SCH hands down. Make sure you have RR up always.

I find that if I went all out nuking, my exp suffered pretty badly. I think the magic damage category cap might be kinda low.

Use Enfeebles! Blind, Stun, Sleep. Casting 40 enfeebles to cap enfeebling exp. "No effects" do not count towards the total but resists do.

Melee! Get a decent staff skill, 215 at least for spirit taker. When you're low on mp, don't rest (unless you have Aresian grip), put on some accuracy, ride drain and aspir and use spirit taker. The category cap on Melee damage is either super high or there isn't one.

Appropriate use of -GA spells. See a bunch of units summoning a turret? Parsimony + Ga their asses. It's cheap and gets you a slew of EXP in one go.

Heal yourself and others! There are separate caps for healing yourself and others (about 8k hp for each). Try to hit both but keep track so you don't exceed them by much.

Pull hate! You get EXP for both taking damage and healing yourself, enough said. Try to pull enough hate to get smacked around but not enough to get killed.

Here is a handy reference guide. It's not perfect but it's close enough.

This is what I do as well. It's surprisingly effective.

Blau Dolch + DD gear + DD food.

BD gives fast tp. Aspir samba, Aspir, MP Drain WS is a really nice combo to keep your mp up. Plus you have the ability to self cure/erase.

I basically treat BLM like a TP burn DD. Melee to regain MP/TP and gear swap/T4. Your spells will hit for a little less than with staves but with your proper gear swaps, it won't make you cringe. Besides, your melee DoT will more than make up for it.

That, and you can mode switch to using drain samba, Drain, waltzes, Ice spikes, etc. and blood tank most mobs when you inevitably get their attention.

I have also heard good things about BLM/SAM and spirit taker spamage but I've never tried it.

Jupiter's staff gives crit bonus, which also gives you an XP bonus iirc. Plus improves your thunders.

Staff gives you spirit taker, which will do you more good than any other WS you have access to across all weapons. Of course you might prefer to use a staff like Kirin's pole to increase the melee damage.

/sam I would be hesitant because you would only have drain to heal, but in many runs where you don't tank at all it would be fine.

Jupiter's staff is a really bad melee weapon. Especially when compared to a Blau Dolch. But not everyone has one of those kicking around.

The improvement to your thunder's will be more than eaten up by melee DoT.

Spirit Taker is ok...but with dagger (blau) you get the mp drain WS's as well. And while they might not drain as much all the time, you will get to use them more often. Aspir samba will also benefit more from using a dagger with haste/brutal earring/DD gear.

Kirin's pole is not a bad staff if you have it, but I prefer a Mekki (again, not everyone has one of those kicking around). I've a friend that uses Alkalurops as well, which he swears by as a good hybrid melee/casting staff.

The key to the best melee/dnc set up is to pick the best DoT weapon you have available to you.
