Depends on which information you are wanting. For max dmg helix and nukes, Alkalurops falls well short of course. Where I am still working on is enfeebles and lower level more resisted helices, under the 150ish damage area. I dont get a ton of time to test helices on sea mobs very often since its pretty important I actually pay attention and help out.

For Enfeebles I think its been relatively proven that 1Macc is ~1Skill. I would assume that Alkalurops would beat out Staves here.

We will assume the helix formula is correct even though it isn't exact. Using the FFXI Magic DMG Calculator...

Cryohelix
With Alkalurops against a pudding(89INT) with Hailstorm/Eb:
75+83 = 192/tick

With HQ staff against a pudding(89INT) with Hailstorm/Eb:
75+78 = 209/tick

With NQ staff against a pudding(89INT) with Hailstorm/Eb:
75+77 = 198/tick

On a monster that takes less magic damage(I couldnt think of a specific INT value of any certain mobs, so I assumed 104INT):

With Alkalurops against a mob with 104INT with Hailstorm/Eb:
75+83 = 128/tick

With HQ staff against a mob with 104INT with Hailstorm/Eb:
75+78 = 138/tick

With NQ staff against a mob with 104INT with Hailstorm/Eb:
75+77 = 130/tick

Ionohelix
With Alkalurops against a pudding(89INT) with Thunderstorm/Eb:
75+77 = 179/tick

With HQ staff against a pudding(89INT) with Thunderstorm/Eb:
75+67 = 183/tick

With NQ staff against a pudding(89INT) with Thunderstorm/Eb:
75+67 = 174/tick

As you can see according to the Magic Calculator, Alkalurops is a decent replacement for NQ staves for Helix spells along with a good replacement for HQ staves other than Aquilo's on tougher mobs (the 120 and below area where the 15% damage increase from HQ is only a fairly small amount.) While I do agree with this information I do not completely trust the Magic Damage Calculator for Helix as I know for a fact my Helix does well more than 209 on puddings.

I just got Argute Mortarboard, which makes me 4/5 SCH. ^^ Sooo close to getting my first completed relic set. :3 *dances around happily*

We're still running, but I don't know if I dare to hope for some DNC goodness, too. ^^;

Picked up another Snow Ring (dont have Tamas), got my balrahns, and bought a Pluto's Staff

Ixion, redingote, and argute gown! /gleeee I R so happy i wanna dance to some Mika - Love Today!

Na... like I could completely understand where someone would be coming from that wanted to do that, but i -personally- totally wouldn't. Ill list why

#1 I hate "recycling" gear or selling off unless i have completely no use for said item. I like to progress only if that makes any sense.

#2, based off the foundation of #1, I still have my Royal cloak which I never intend to sell, but will mainly be used with "only need refresh, not regen" jobs. like Smn or blm for example.

#3 I have 2 standing macros set up now, 1 for gown, one for ixion. The one with gown is for if i have sublimation pull initiated, and want the pull speeded up (obvously right). However, I'll also have the ixion on stand by if say i need actual mp more than my charge, but still wanna keep a charge pulling instead of spending it yet (ie low mana but need some like during endurance matches like soloing Ullikumi. Also, I'd keep ixion cloak for situations like being in sky when i wanna put up sublimation, but don't wanna hassle with putting up skin, or can't "cuz of magic aggro" i can toss up my ixion cloak, garden bangles, and nodowa for a 2-3 tick regen to negate the sublimation pull for a majority amount. I do a lot of things that require "ALOT" of running, like running all over the sea zones, palace, sky, etc, and sometimes i need the cloaks use more so than the gown's use. (situational gear go!)

Argute Gown mine!

I DC'd in the middle of a Beaucedine, took the opportunity to swap from PS2 to PC, came back, saw the loot pool, saw the Gown, lotted, and then said, "I'm back, DC'd, sorry." Well, the LS chat pretty much erupted with "LOT YOU FOOL" because my gown had gone free-lot (it's nice being one of two SCH in my shell). In the midst of the chaos, the linkshell got everyone to pass to me (which was way more considerate than I deserve), and I was the proud recipient of one of 5 relic pieces or armor to drop the entire night.

Fun times.

Im quite happy,think is the best nuking earring that we can ever get from the tenshodo chest (i know that augment can reach a max of mattk +2,but i doubt we will ever see an earring with +2 int and 2 mab together).

Err,don't consider the rest of the gear,i was on bst and that's my mana setup xD

Finally beat my puppet's best nuke! 1735 thunder 4, with ebullience, day and weather, morgana's cotehardie, v. mufflers, yigit feet, moldy, ugg pendant um... I think that's all important stuff. Okay, puppet has only blizzard 4... but still! I couldn't beat it before I did some gear upgrades.

Oh and I got argute pants a while ago, hoping for the gown to drop this evening. And there not being gazillion other people lotting it...

Well, finally got around to soloing, in my mind, something worth bragging about.

Aa Xalmo the Savage

Took about an hour of killing place holders to get him to pop.

buffs, food, hailstorm, cryohelix-> bio 2 then earth staff kited to stairs/hallway and bind/grav'd it to 50% or so, keeping helix/bio up the entire time. Around 50% bind started wearing almost instantly and I got caught with a few (very hard) hits.

Slept it, and sleep was sticking fine so went with a sleep/nuke/kite tactic until eventually dead.

No drop but I'm happy, been wanting to solo something harder than an aura stat for awhile for practice, eventually would like to move to sky nm's like despot and ulli.

While I mainly nuke on my sch, I also do main heal quite a bit and I have whm75, so I took the plunge and it paid off.

5/5 Stormsurge! It came at a price tho... 0/10 anniversary band. Worth it imo as before my merit frenzy i was 1/5.
