I have not played FFXI since the earthquake, and was barely playing much before then anyway.
I have long had the goal of getting the AF2 hat before I quit (before the level increase) but I never got it. Whenever my LS did Xarc, the hat would drop multiple times on the runs I didn't make, but never when I was there.
I think I was around 83 or so, without most of the Abyssea gear (unfortunately.) With the "new" Dynanmis changes, how much work would I need to put in to gear up and finally farm up my hat? Is the drop rate any better?
I was never that good at solo, but pretty much everyone I knew is gone.

As you know you can dyna every day, and the area is not reserved, so multiple groups can enter. Because of that there are usually plenty of people in there farming coins etc. Alot of small groups won't have a single person in need of the hat, just ask around, offer to pass on coins, you will likely get an invite.

I haven't tried for the hat myself yet but I am pretty sure it's soloable now, going to try for the body 1st, took me 3 runs to get my gloves in basty solo, so I can see it being done solo.

it's just luck as to what drops from what mob, i've seen 2 d chaps recently (so i now have 3 :D) and 0 Assassins Armlets, but my friend who i have been duoing with said that when she came in to get her AA and they dropped on the 3rd mob... it's all about luck! Just get all the TE, and proc them to hell - there's maps and placements of all the TE on the bgwiki - http://wiki.bluegartr.com/bg/Category:Dynamis#References

Bit of advice, if AF is all you are looking for someone that is just looking for coins might be willing to team up with you. As a duel boxer I farm currancy and am always willing to accept the help of someone who is looking for just af.

also you don't need to get TE for AF to drop. TH helps.

Best route is to camp the RDM NM, not sure how well that works solo though, we had 4 AA armlets drop in 1 run (1 dropped with 5 secs left on the clock!!), 3 dropped the run before, this was with a party of 3-4 people. NM spawns often enough, random pop, probably every 20-30mins I think?

There are two kinds of people in FFXI, those doing the laughing and those who don't know what's funny.
My girlfriend and I got one in Dynamis as DNC/nin (me) and RDM/blm (her) off of regular monsters (random demon THF that I procced). We both have had ours for a while, so we started doing /sh to see if anyone wanted. Nobody did, so it fell to me (mine's in storage), and I ended up /tossing a Duelist's Chapeau. It made me feel awful to see that message in my log, like something is wrong with the game when D-Chap's are going to nobody.
Falling to the ground are they? I was able to get 4/5 RDM artifact in the span of one month ... and then many years after and up until I had to stop playing in 2011, I was unable to get the hat. Maybe now I can just go to Dynamis Xarcabard and look through the snow until I find one.
Waiting in line is no fun at all!
