This was an anxious fight for me! When I first approached the Burning Circle, my pulse jumped to 148 (yes, I measured my pulse)! I took a walk outside for 30 minutes before I calmed down and went ahead with the fight. It wasn’t perfect and I made mistakes, but got the job done in the end I am happy to say.

I would like to share some personal pointers for those interested. Perhaps they are obvious or redundant, but if they are of help to someone, then they served their purpose.

1: Remain calm! Ha! I do not think I would have been able to finish this fight as nervous as I was initially. Adrenaline is useful and perhaps unavoidable, but if it becomes too much to handle, take a break.

2: Take your time making Macros, with gear swaps and all, and make sure you entered everything correctly. You can get a sense of what Macros I used by the names you see in the video. Use whatever you feel you need (I did not use all of mine), and be comfortable with them. Perhaps it goes without saying, but a good arrangement of Macros goes a long way in making this fight easier.

3: I had all my magic skills capped, except for Divine and Healing. I fought him at level 70. Capped Enfeebling and Elemental may have been particularly helpful.

4: Eat your food BEFORE entering the battle; once inside, IMMEDIATELY run up to him and sleep him before setting out to Dispel his buffs!

5: Part of the luck that is involved in this notorious fight is successfully sleeping Maat at the outset. I got lucky that he did not cast Blink before I got to him. However, there are several safety measures you can have in place to increase your chances of not having him pummel you to death. 3 forms of sleep (Sleep 1/Sleep 2/Sleep Bolts) and 2 ways to “keep your distance” (Bind/Gravity)—I had four of those lined up, and just needed Sleep 1 and Sleep 2.

6: You do NOT need super gear or medicine to finish this fight successfully! The only luxury item I had was the Elemental Torque that I bought a couple of years ago. Otherwise, I used average gear, and spent all of 11,500 gil on food (Rolanberry Pie) and medicine (Pro-Ether)! I would even venture to say that it is possible to do this fight without food or medicine, but I did not want to take my chances. The medicine was merely used to quickly replenish my MP after casting initial buffs.

7: I did not use the “entering battle with no gear so Maat is weaker” method, or go in on a particular elemental day for better results, such as Wind Day (for Aero III) or Dark Day (for Sleep). I am not sure if the former has been proven to work. The latter can admittedly be useful! However, I went in on Fire Day, so neither is necessary for success.

8: Chainspell is your best friend! It’s worth noting that 1 minute is a long time, and it not only helps get those nukes in, but also stay “invincible” for all intents and purposes through Stoneskin and spamming sleep, which will land essentially guaranteed.

Those are all the tidbits I can think of. Good luck to all others who attempt this fight!

Cheers,

Mhop

This is probably 10 times more important than anything else you can do while soloing.

This is my favorite tip, it definatly helps a ton

Trying to manually equip and cast is unecessarily diffucult in this fight and in the game
If you're lvl 70 rdm or lvl 68 or w/e and you don't have macro's now would be the opportune moment

I'm not a mean person, never been in a fight, but I wanted to reach through the screen and smack this person in the face...and I'd cast Gravity before I did it so I'd have a better chance of hitting him.
