1 find area with lvl appropriate mobs for your current skill, then go kill.

1) outside jeuno is good till 90-100
2) east altepa 100-130
3) kuftal 130-190

Then EP and DC for the rest.

if you have /pld will be much faster

It's the animation. All Drakesbane does is poke a mob and make lights appear. Ukko's Fury smashes a hole through existence itself to damage an opponent.

Stoneskin, phalanx, Genbu's shield, and all the chigoes you can handle.

Sipar is also good for skillups if you have one. The blockrate is very high, and the defense for its size is great.

Level PLD >____>

Really, you can skill shield the same as anything else (fighting appropriate level mobs). Or you can just go farm/melee/break latent weapons/whatever and the skill will come eventually. IMO, the latter is better for something like this. Even on PLD I worked on Club skill and Atonement while capping it.

If you want it leveled fast, use a strategy like Vx mentioned. MNK mobs are good targets because of the fast attack rate and low damage strikes. Start off with one at a time and as you get more comfortable tank 2 or 3.

Like others have mentioned, there's plenty of questing that will have you go somewhere and kill something so you could just skill up shield over time with less frustration.

Really enjoyed Elmer the Pointy's Youtube video on skilling up guard. He said finding the right lvl to fight was your skill/3. His video would probably also work for shield, except you don't have to have your weapon drawn for your shield to fire.

I spent alot of time fishing up Devil Manta's (along with crabs and pugs) in Kuftal Tunnel, getting Angel skins occasionally, but I did manage to get alot of Shield skill ups, heh.
So while I didn't make alot of gil, it was still worth my time. My PLD liked having capped Shield for awhile Smiley: thumbsup

Yeah definately! Back in the day I used Mandies and Chigoes to speed level my parry skill as Rdm/Blu, done right your defensive skills can really start to sky rocket!

Fun times XD

Just make sure you never let your buffs wear, with that many mobs whacking you at once, spell interuption can become a major problem if you let too many of your buffs drop at once.

may also find using a smaller shield will net you alot more skill ups than something big like genbus.

i took mine up to 150ish in the tree little 4 or 5 lil mandies beat up on me. defender stoneskin phalanx protoect and a taco is a heap of defence then grab something like a light buckler and off you go,

i carried a genbus just incase i linked a lil more than i was comfortable with but the buckler was fine. might be a differant story when i get around to going up top for the black mandies though.

I have been leveling shield skill recently.

30-35% PDT gear and pull 2 chigoes outside the entrance to einherjar and as long as you keep up phalanx they will constantly hit for 0 apart from the occasional crit, so I sub whm and wear the regen neck piece to keep my HP up.

With composure up, I can afk for 7-8 minutes, just returning to recast phalanx (and possibly cast regen if they have been criting a lot).

Parrying can be done the same way, but then you have to engage them (and eventually you will kill them with a random crit).
