The pup/nin Abyssean BackpackFollow

Hey all,

I've filled a lot of roles in abyssea: main heal on DD party, main assist, puller, physical DD and magical DD. Frequently I've done them in the same party. When xxx job logs, the pup can step up and fill the roll when the alliance would have otherwise been in a rough spot. I've found that, with the exception of magical DD, you can easily bring all the gear you will need for the other roles and perform quite well on pup/nin. This is just what I bring to make it happen.

Base set: your physical DD set.

Main heal: Full time the Buffoon's Collar, AF gloves, and AF legs. Just stay back and let the puppet do the work. Your job here is to not overload and maximize puppet output. Even with a DD job working as main assist I've found that the puppet alone is more than enough to heal a DD party (as long as the main assist is not in your party). I have not tried to pup/nin heal the party with the main assist, and I'm not sure I'd want to.

Main assist: Stack evasion. To keep the inventory consumption down, I just bring the big pieces: optical hat, evasion torque, and boxer's mantle. But if you even just had a dodge headband, spirit torque, and dodge cape you would get a large chunk of evasion at about 10% of the cost.

Pulling: All of the evasion gear from the main assist set, and Tsurara (and have the spell Hyoton: ni. Incidentally, this is great for pulling when soloing also). You can deploy your puppet on the mob currently being fought and go out to pull the next one. For some reason I get a real kick out of that.

So... to fill all of these roles when on pup/nin, beside my regular DD set I only bring:
Tsurara (Hyoton: ni strongly recommended, ichi takes too long to cast imo)
Buffoon's collar
AF gloves
AF legs
Optical hat
Evasion torque
Boxer's mantle

That's it. Seven slots and one spell. And many of you already macro in the collar and gloves, so it would just be five slots. I hope this helps you out, it's been great for me.

For Altana's sake, USE MACROS PEOPLE! I recommend not only trying to prevent overloads, but trying to prevent getting booted. Even if you're not going to DD, you'd maybe prefer some evasion on those slots. Either way, hitting that macro allows you to run around without getting stopped by the animation.

I have a computer that is at least six years old. If I blink, I will be invisible on my screen for up to ten seconds, literally. That makes me hate the game, and fun > all. So I don't swap hands. And, for what it's worth, I almost never overload.

"I almost never overload" is not an argument point. None of us overload... Any PUP worth his/her Animator knows how dreadfully easy it is to avoid overloading 99% of the time. Fulltiming Buffoon's Collar and AF Gloves isn't helping you.

Go look up "Blinkmenot" and stop making the rest of us look bad.

the new af should allievate some of the gear to take along, I think the pants will will keep pantin in MH, and the boots seem to be better for mage puppet, I think all the mind and int will equal the lost mab, and add macc too.

the hands i hope retain the haste for both master and pet, that will be hard to give up, and the body whould be very interesting.

When I do overload I slap myself in the head for not waiting for my threshold to cool down a second after activating lol. It always happens on that bloody Water Maneuver. /looks into a MND setup and smacks his Taru

Sadly, I can't run Blinkmenot because Windower lags me to pieces, too. I'm running a Dell 5100 Inspiron here. I have to run the game with no sound and a fairly low resolution. Neither blinking nor Windower are options for me.

The issue of blinking on maneuvers has been address many times (wonderful if you don't have a six-year old Dell laptop). Swapping hands and neck allows you to use better gear the rest of the time, even if it's just standing, as well as avoid animations, which can be a life saver. It's a good idea, if you're computer is not a laptop made around 2004.

However, as one who cannot blink, and who is main healing a party, I use the af gloves and buffoon's collar. The puppet is doing all the work, and the main job I have is not overloading it. You may have your own way. You may even have a better way, which is fantastic.

The point of this post wasn't to go into whether or not full timing af gloves is a good idea. I just wanted to say that with a few extra gear pieces you can fill a wide variety of abyssea roles. It's fun, and I wanted to share the idea.

That's the loveliness of PUP. In a minute or two you can switch to be a main healer for your party, a Portable nuke machine, Or casual DD to even a self generating tank. The reason I always end up going PUP to Abyssea events is because of it's versatility; we are not locked into 1 slot.

Funny I have a computer a the same age and I can manage to macro things in no problem.

Nice try.

We can compare specs if you want from glorious machines with single core processors, PCI graphics cards, and DDR SDRAM :P

If it is that bad though then do not play on it. Relegate that computer to your porn collection and posting duties.
