spell learning with +skill confusion

So everywhere I have looked says you need to be with in 29 lvls of the the blu magic cap of the lvl that you can use the spell. I know from back when I first did blu that you can use the af bodys +15 skill to modify the earliest that you could learn the spells.

My question was and it seems silly can I use the +25 skill I have in other gear (legs+2 ammo relic hat) the same way? the stuff I have seen have only mentioned the af body and none of the other gear.

(had issues learning Vanity Dive, and I thought that this might be the reason, so figured I would ask in case its not just a string of bad luck.

I believe the reason you only see the af body mentioned is that for a long time the af body was the only +skill piece to be had.

Other pieces were either not applicable because they were only active during conditions where you wouldn't be learning spells, were only available at 70+ when you would presumably have all the native skill you needed to learn spells to the old 75 cap, or weren't added until abyssea.

I've never seen anything about the other pieces, either, but I don't see any reason any form of +skill shouldn't work the same way as the Magus Jubbah.

thanks for the response. those are the same conclusions that I had drawn, but after sever hours of bad luck I started second guessing.

Yeah, unfortunately hours of bad luck trying to farm up a spell is commonplace for Blue Mages. From my experience and those of other Blue Mages I've heard stories about, you tend to either have streaks of great luck where you'll go 1/1 on them, or horrible luck where you'll go several hours or even days where you're doing nothing wrong, you're perfectly capable of learning the spell as far as skill goes, you're fighting mobs that can and are able to use it, but you're just not learning it.

All you can do is just persevere.
