Level 20 or Prime ?Follow

Hi all,
I'm an old Bst but have just started with Smn, so far so good, however I'm rushing up to 20 and wondering if I should go for the Lvl 20 Avatars or wait until I can do the Prime trials ?
I found this in the wiki and would welcome any advice or suggestions !

"Most summoners recommend you never complete this quest, as the ability to instant warp to prime avatar at any time is worth a lot more in the long run."

Surely one easy warp cannot be worth the chance to obtain an avatar & therefore the opportunity to skillup at 20 ?

I'd also appreciate any other advice on summoning skill skillup, at the moment I've been using a macro so that 30 seconds after I use 'Release', 'Carbuncle' kick's in, I've been doing this since level 1 [now at 13] but despite that and using 'Blood Pact' am only at 8 with Smn skill . . .

Many thanks !
Jon

Did you start a new account? If not just go do the primes on your bst and then you can use the forks for porting.

Once you get 2 more avatars you can make an avatar/release macro to constantly cast them for skill ups, but I don't remember the wait times off hand. I suppose you can do it with elementals too, although you'll burn mana faster that way and I think the avatars give more skill ups, not sure about that one.

Hi Anakte,
Thanks for your advice, it really does give me food for thought and I'm afraid leads me to ask other question's if you'd be so kind please ?
Ok lets assume I can solo the 6 elemental avatars that leaves Diablos/Fenrir prime to obtain yes ?[forget Odin & Alex for the moment]
So, to obtain Diablos & Fenrir I need the drop from each of the 6 previous avatar fights, their 'Whisper' which in turn means I have to repeat each of the 6 fights twice again ?
The 1st round of 6 avatar fights gives me an avatar each fight so on the assumption I choose the avatar, the 2nd fight I choose the pop item for first the Diablos fight then Fenrir ?
[With me so far ? lol]
Is this feasable or am I being very long-winded about it ?
Thanks for your input !
Jon

Well to get Fenrir yes you need the whispers, (and you don't turn anything in to get them, you specifically do NOT go back to the taru or he'll take your whisper away) but for Diabolos you have to do CoP quests unrelated to the avatar battles. Also, you have to wait 1 rl day between turning in the first whisper and when you can do the next fight.

I'm only 31 myself, but can solo the primes with my 86 drg, you should be fine with a lvl 90 bst. I haven't started trying to get Diabolos yet so unfortunately I can't give you any advice there besides - http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Waking_Dreams

Hi Anakte,
I did finally decide to go try the Leviathan Prime fight and took my 90 Bst/Whm with NN as my pet.
It was a very easy fight, all over in 6 minutes but I then took the 'Whisper' and traded it in for the Leviathan avatar, I shall let you know if I am able to redo the same fight for another 'Whisper'.
If not no Fenrir for me eh ?
Thanks !
Jon

Most people can get their avatars via outside help. A lot have gotten their avatars even before unlocking/playing SMN.

At any rate though, I'm hearing that the quoted statement no longer applies, because apparently it was made possible to use the warps even if you have done the level-20 fights.

After turning the whisper in for a prize, you must wait until midnight JP time in order to get another tuning fork to repeat the fight.

The warp is semi-useful, I'll admit, but to be honest I much preferred having summon choices early on. The fights themselves teach you how to manage MP and kite effectively with Carbuncle, and the cloisters are fairly easy to get to once you know the routes, so you don't miss out on much.

The only cloister which is a minor nuisance to get to, in my opinion, is Ifrits. But only because you need an ice cluster or you'll be sat waiting behind a wall of fire.
