I'm new to ffxi and I was curious to know if Drg sort of like a spike DD like Drk or is it a good DOT? I know this may sound stupid but I just don't lol... Thanks in advance.
It isn't spike like DRK, but that is because you get more abilities to use. Not played DRK in ages, but it was cast some spells, hit the the mob, get tp, WS.
DRG swings, jumps and WS. Wyv pet is added damage.
All DPS are DoTs >.>

What exactly do you mean by "spike"? If you are looking to make the biggest WS/Number then drg is frankly better than drk. Drakes is better than any WS drk has. Drk can 'zerg' mobs better where you buff the melees up to hell and go ballistic on 1 mob once in a blue moon for a minute or less.
As said above, Drg is a suberb general melee. It does great, consistent damage in almost any scenario. It is an 'ok' zerg job, but also has angon which is a very powerful ability to have in a zerg (reduced mob Def by 20%) so drg is still great there between damage and angon ability.

No but if you have the proper equip/subjob you can survive the mobs " I want the player dead right F^ing now" attack. Survive and still win the fight.
As someone who is just coming back to the game after a year and a half leave.... Man, I LOVE DRG/BLU

Where have you been for the last year?
RR/GH/Apoc + Drakesbane = 3-5k dmg on IT xp mobs which is on par with most of, and even surpasses some of the "good" Empyrean WSs that other jobs get. In xp alliances Drakesbane pretty much makes "mobs dead right @#%^ing now" and with how ridiculously fast DRG gains TP with the new jumps you can typically fire them off pretty rapidly. Plus it's not too shabby as a DD on larger prey either. I've hit stuff like Orthrus for 4-5k+ easily. Just because you're a gimp doesn't mean everyone else playing the job is.

Every DD can weaponskill. I thought that was understood, but apparently some people feel the need to explicitly state the obvious.
