Got Sonic Thrust at 300 polearm skill.

It says its AOE but i havent been able to hit multiple mobs with it. I tried conal but that didnt work either. It is in fact conal, just very narrow.

Picked on some TW mobs in Mis Coast when i got it. Only did 3 but just to get an idea:

1152
896
1020

This was in TP gear so no heavy str build or anything. No idea what mods are yet.

Either its broken (AOE part) or they changed it and the text is now wrong. Everything i can see is single hit WS. But the damage is actually pretty sweet for a 1 hit WS. If it has any cool traits like ignore def it certainly has more potential damage than wheeling. If it does good damage on high level targets......this could be nice. Imma play with it some more and get back to you.

I was partying in Misareaux on Vultures. It's either conal, or AoE around the target with very short radius. I hit a few mobs on occasion and nearly wiped my party on said occasions.

Comparable damage to Wheeling Thrust at 100%. Over took it at 200%+

Drakesbane -> Sonic Thrust resulted in Distortion. Not sure what SC properties that gives it.

I'm going to be doing a few tests with a THF friend to see what else it SC's with.

Well, I can say the AOE works. I was fighting Marids, it effectively beat the hell out of chigoes.

A DRG (Martel) who got it before me did some quick testing in East Ronfaure on Rabbits.

100% TP even each time.

SA: No Gear

1440
1332
1305

SA: STR65 DEX24 VIT17 Elvaan Lv. 76 with SAM Sub STR merits. V Fork.

1565
1562
1551

Noticed a slight difference due to a few possible factors, told him to try VIT.

SA: STR24 DEX13 VIT42

1474
1438
1457

So, going by this I'd say it has to do something with VIT maybe. Needs a little more testing for sure.

Rudimentary elemental properties test duoing with another drg.

Impulse>Sonic=X
Wheel>Sonic=X
Penta>Sonic=X
Skewer>Sonic=Distortion
Leg sweep>Sonic=X
Drakes>Sonic=Distorition
Vorpal>Sonic=Distortion

Looks like scission based WS so far.

Preliminary numbers to try to figure out mods/FTP and such. Small sample.

My wheeling gear (str heavy)

1426

Mods definately make a dif. exactly 200 max damage diference and 205 min damage dif between sets (sample size small so may not be the VERY max. But should be close enough to get some guesses)
______________________________________________________________________-

Ran some quick theoretical calcs. Focused on str/dex as they seem the most plausible mods from the name and its what changed the most between the two gear sets. Assuming the max damage is the max (2.77 pdif) the numbers line up well if i use:

50% str mod=3.06 and 3.07 FTP (3.06=naked. 3.07=geared)
50%str/50%Dex=2.48 and 2.48 ftp (Both naked and geared came to 2.48)

Just some guesses that come out with pretty even numbers.

Stuff that didnt work, mods that didnt line up as well between the two sets like:
str75%
Str30%, Dex20% etc
___________________________________________________
Im almost certain its a str mod because the min and max jumped 200+ damage while all stats changed ~5 or less save dex+14 and +60 str. The other mods cant possibly account for that much swing without some obscene mod AND ftp which doesnt make much since. It is almost certainly a heavy or exclusive str mod.

But we cant rule out other things as secondary mods until we get some results with heavy stat gear focus on other stats like dex.

Have at it testers. Need heavy stat builds and some bunny kills!

Seems to have a scission property someone said above, so sounds like soil.

Edit: Oh, and VS abraxas @ 77(enemy are 95-98 according to the SCH in my ls to Libra'd them), I had several ranges, but at 100% ~750 was the common number(using Wheeling set) and 1600 each time I went to 300.

Just did a 2525 dmg Sonic Thrust to a too weak Memory Receptacle in Promyvion - Dem pic here

It's also a VERY narrow conal, could be likened to a Wyrm's breath attack. A stray just to my right that was standing on me like you'd stand on Fafhogg didn't get hit, but a couple directly infront of me did.

I'm not a DRG, but we were doing Tammuz the new T2 VNM last night and Sonic Thrust was doing 700-1k+ consistently from a DRG/WHM. Him and about 90% of the ally were JPN so I couldn't ask what WS gear he had.

So, I'm in Miseraux doing Seaboard Vultures, and our BRD is pulling just fast enough so that there is another mob in camp by the time the last one is dying.

Let me tell you something, this WS is so fun it should be patched.

I'm blasting 700-1000 damage ws on TWO mobs at the same time. It's like a german chocolate cake. You can tell that it's going to be bad for your health but you can't stop doing it.

I enjoy sonic thrust.

Nothing like using it for killshot when 2nd mob lined up to get hit too :p

The fact it's conal and not radius is so @#%^ing win (no unintentional oshi aggro)

Ideas? Sure. Many of us noticed marked increase when using our Wheeling(STR) sets, so STR appears to be part of the mod. It chains distorytion and scission closing, so Soil Gorget seems good(I tested it very little, but saw an increase).

More ideas was posted here.

Do we have a concrete theory with tests supporting the numbers and are 90% sure? Not yet, we need more data.

I just noticed, first off if you are /mage and your wyvern has 190 TP you can self SC distortion.

Sonic Thrust > spirit link > Sonic Thrust : Distortion.

Only works /mage because obviously the wyvern will dump TP on WS if you have an offensive one. But if you are soloing an NM /mage and can TP up before hand, it's an amazing opener.

Was just farming in promyvions and discovered this small usage of our new Spirit Link ability.

After very very little testing... I averaged 1245 damage at (roughly)100% TP and 2000 damage at 300% TP. That's a 37.75% damage difference. The closest fTP differences I can get to that is 2.5 and 4.

Stats:
STR: 126
DEX: 86
VIT: 83
AGI: 60
INT: 59
MND: 72
CHR: 72
Attack: 447

Weapon:
Cletine DMG:91

Enemies were Death Jackets (~144 DEF, ~38 VIT, ~46 AGI) outside Tavnazian Safehold in Lufaise Meadows.

fSTR: 18
Average pDif: 2.24

So, if the formula is:
(Weapon Damage + fSTR + WSC) * fTP * pDif * 1.25 = WSDMG

Filled in the formula and worked backwards. WSC came out to be ~69. That's ~55%, but given the small sample number, I'd be comfortable calling it a 50%STR mod.

EDIT: Forgot to accoutn for piercing bonus on Bee mobs.

Another smallish sample. Mourioche (~269 DEF 82 VIT) this time. Average WS damage was ~1460. All WSs performed at 300%.

Stats:
STR: 126
DEX: 86
VIT: 83
AGI: 60
INT: 59
MND: 72
CHR: 72
Attack: 447

Weapon:
Cletine DMG:91

max pDif: 1.992
min pDif: 1.192
average pDif: 1.592

fSTR: 11
WSC: 50%STR (based off of my last test)
fTP: 4.0 (based off of my last test)

So, if the formula is:
(Weapon Damage + fSTR + WSC) * fTP * pDif * 1.25 = WSDMG

Odd, got only 1313 from that...

After messing with the equation a bit and got it to work at 65%STR WSC. So, maybe 60%? Or I'm completely off as far as the fTP goes.

I need a larger sample size. :x

Some WS have a pDIF bonus. Your pdif could be much larger than you think it is. We've been asking SE for a pDIF bonus style ws like Y/G/K for a while. This WS honestly so far seems to do similar damage(have yet to try it against any HNM, as our ls is on a leveling break).

Maybe try on crabs, and see if you notice it hitting more than it should?

Edit: I only did an extremely small sample, but I did a few SA 300 WS vs level 1s, got between 1985 and 2143
STR: 127
DEX: 75
VIT: 75
AGI: 61
INT: 59
MND: 57
CHR: 63

Weapon Fay Lance +5 DMG, 95
fSTR capped, 18.

Lets see if 50% STR and 4.0 is close to mine. My pDIF max should be 3.15, but didn't do enough to know if I reached it.

(95 + 18 + 52) * 4 * 3.15 = 2079.

That falls a bit short, (I didn't have gorget on, but even with Gorget it should have maxed out at 2130). Maybe 60% STR is right? 2217 max (vs non piercing level 1) possible then.

Second edit: if the fTP is 3.5 instead of 4.0, 50% STR and 50% VIT also fit with my max, at 2160 max. On yours, it fits but just a bit high, unless a pdif bonus is in effect(something like 1.15 times or a straight + .3 or something?).

Well Geirskogul was our best WS for high def mobs otherwise, but this looks like it'll be our Tachi Gekko/Steel Cyclone, especially if it has an attack bonus like those ws too.

Geirskogul has never been one of the best DRG weaponskills. It's highly dependant on attack actually and performs rather poorly on high level stuff. We lack the proper gear to make it shine.

Sonic Thrust is powerful, def a high X.X mod. However, I'm not so sure about the 60% STR part. I just don't see it.

Spinning Slash+1 not bad. Since we're the only job that got a decent ws out of this update, does that mean other jobs will get awesome WS for lvl 90+ since they got lame elemental ws? Could see us getting like Zeus Thrust lighting ele ws, and other jobs getting something overpowered.

I gotta say I feel I disagree with 30/30 more than I did with 60 lol! I just don't see it, a 200 damage difference by adding on +50-60 stats, it's just not there. I do realize the WS is actually very attack dependent, all of my high ones have been due to Dia II-III + Angon and having either Minuet IV and or Chaos or both.

I've also noticed varying results in damage. Especially when using it on more than one monster. The damage can be anywhere from 800-1700 from my experience and it's mind boggling. What the heck causes such a dramatic change? Sure, one mob could have Dia on it. But the high damage is usually the middle or last one, or first and last, or last and second.

They say you can't use Sneak Attack with this, so what explains that large damage boost? Is it simply the range it can go I can't really comprehend it.

200-300% TP also have VERY large damage boosts. Sekkanoki -> Sonic -> Sonic is GREAT for links, although it's a quick way to get your butt whooped. But again, the damage is never consistent or NEAR consistent. It's always erratic from what I'm getting.

Has anyone tested VIT+ on this as a possible mod?

A friend I was duoing with who frequents some other random forums said that he heard it may be enmity dependent, in that LOW enmity is beneficial. I laughed at him, but I must agree, this sh*t is wildly inconsistent, and yeah, I know how to account for double attacks.

On a different note, 10/10 xzomit, 5/5 aern, just need my UFO, how do I go about testing to see if soil gorget actually works on this thing? Ronfaure bunnies?

Funny how a lot of WS's that deal with Soil Gorget have some form of VIT mod on them -_-;

On another note, since when does DA account for a 800 damage boost?

Anyways let's see how that Soil Gorget works out for ya.

I've also heard the "low enmity" mod, but at the same time I've seen higher damage on the current party mob than the new mob, which I should have 0 hate on. This WS does seem highly variant somehow.

I dont see it as variant at all. I've gone from 75-80 capped xp on seaboard vultures. Most of the time I logged in, checked the three camps, and formed pt if they were open. All of these pts had brd, (min mar or mar/mar) and sometimes cor. In all of these damage was very consistent. 900-1100 on 2 mobs when used.

I have a very modest ws set, hecax3 + attack.

This ws is amazing. I went Drg/nin because I was main tank 5 ws per 3 mob average. (Dont kill me, it was best and damnation dive is avoided with 2 shadows).

Best pt there was actually sch drg war drk cor brd. Easy setup is dnc rdm brd drgx2 war. I also drg burn there which is very challenging and fast. Recommend at least 3x drg/mage because damnation dive removes 1 drg HB and I've yet to meet a drg as quick on hb trigger as me.

This camp yields between 17 and 22k xp/hr (with brd). I recommend marinara pizza +1 or high tier str/attk food.

edit: Also, sea gorget I think is going to be much better than love torque (which one is it). Will sea gorget effects affect both mobs damage...?

Didn't seem to vary that much to me.
Last einherjar was hovering around the 1.1k mark on bats.
Last MMM was around 900-1000 normally, 600ish if triple bat attack down, and 1200-1300 if angon'd.

Only attack buffs in both cases were chaos roll.

Seems pretty consistant to me.

If asuran fists counts as a lot of weapon skills, then okay.

Weird question. Anyone notice a change in damage based on mob facing? It may just be an artifact of small sample size, but I was getting vastly different numbers on Empathic Flan in BR yesterday. 300ish from the side 500-600 from the front, call it 10-15 WS over 4 flan. In one case I used Sonic Thrust on the side of the flan we were fighting and hit the front of another flan that was parked slept nearby (on purpose) and did approximately 2x damage to the slept flan that was facing me. That may be an indicator of a low enmity modifier, but I got similar numbers when I purposefully moved in front of a flan that I had hate on to WS. Again, very low sample size, may be imagining things, on crack, etc.

Are we talking floor 2 flans? Because 2 of them take reduced physical damage, and 2 take reduced magical damage...

I got the opposite fighting easy lizys in Cap helping a friend do dagger trials. Lizy facing/hitting me got under to around 1k and the lizys facing/hitting (I would hit there side) my friend was getting around 1k to over 1k. Did about 100 lizys and the second lizy all ways got hit harder, and usealy was about 300 more then the first mob. Maybe it depends on your range.
