OK I guess I overreacted a bit, lol... it is not stoneskin though. This spell will only negate damage if the damage exceeds a certain number, who knows what that number will be. Based on what that threshold is and what the spell duration is, it could make or break this spell.

it also depends on exactly how it works. is it a second layer of shadows that only works on high damage moves? will it be one and done?

Hmmm. TP moves like Sickle Slash do huge damage as well as ga spells that wipe our shadows.
Gonna have to play with it to figure it out. Also looks like the Nin AF3+2's body piece has an enhance of this trait, so we'll see.

Some similarity to the BRD song Sentinel's Scherzo - "Mitigates the impact of severely damaging attacks for party members within an area of effect", which reduces damage taken of attacks that would otherwise deal 75% or more of your maximum HP.
Also a couple automaton attachments have similar properties:
Schurzen - Prevents the death of the automaton. If an attack is strong enough to kill, it will instead leave the automaton with 1 HP, and remove an earth maneuver. The schurzen only works on physical attacks.

Basicaly just a self cast version of earthan armor like smn got last update if so a whole new world just opened up for nin. Im gonna solo so much stuff in scars with this spell /whm using flash spam and hatse. gonna be fun. cant wait to test the new dmg of ninjistu. Lets hope to god that new tools can be made cheap or bought from npc.

For the past couple of months, Nin HAS been in the no1 tanking position.
Also, as hates not a problem to hold using RR atma on abys mobs (at least ones that arnt kited) /MNK counter tanking might have suddenly become very very real. We'll be looking at a ~50% counter rate using Counterstance & counter Jobtrait. Counterstance itself also gives a nice spike in hate. Other benifits from /MNK include the other lolstuff like Dodge (+20 evasion) Focus (+20 acc) and the ability to Boost attack before Blade Jin.
The DMG output obviously isn't as good as /WAR, but aslong as your holding hate via dmg done like MNK's do, /MNK might become our new main abyss sj.

It may be on par or above /WAR really. 50% counter rate, plus af3+1 or +2 legs enhances Yonin (gives counter effect) may outdo zerk and DA. Tough to speculate if it will. With a decent mage in an Abyssea pt, you don't even have to use shadows, unless its an emergency...so counter rate should be quite high.

Apparently it negates 100% of damage if the attack would have done more damage than your MAX HP (not current HP). It also has a 2 minute recast and 1 minute duration.
Basically, epic fail unless you're doing some hella scary giant NM. Useless for most day-to-day solo-type stuff.
Maybe with a crap ton of HP down gear, 50%+ haste so you can full-time it, and counterstance to make your def lol?

At first glance it seems bad, but there are quite a few NMs that can one shot you even at level 90. I guess you don't really think about it until you're laying face down, but as I laid there sucking mud, embarrassed that I got owned by Jyesthya(sp?) I realized that this spell would have saved my sorry ass from that 1800 DS I took to the grill. After I thought about it I found quite a few other situations where it would be useful. The duration is the only turn-off for me.
Day to day solo I agree, but it's not completely worthless.

I'd say that's pretty much win to me.
At what point in "day to day soloing" would you even be worried about dying? When we could already solo stuff like Serket, Kruetzet, Bune, or even Ash Dragon [albeit with meds and slight difficulty on that one] at 75, anything not with a deadly TP move is pretty laughable on NIN.
Tanked Iratham yesterday on NIN/DRK 2500 or so HP, ate 2200 comet no problem, while the PLD died [yes yes lol PLD, they were using him to hold for proc !!, but wasn't really needed as I also had hate from 95% to death.] Ate a 4k tp move on a chariot in A-Grauberg and got rocked... This move is win personally.

Has anyone testing on the Iga Ningi +1 / +2?
When I was doing Rani with a shout group, and we were farming the key items. The chariot that uses "Homing missile" would always take me down to 1%(and anyone dumb enough to be in range) and hate reset.
So here's the thing, with my Iga ningi +1 on and Migawari, Homing missile did no damage, but still reset my enmity.
So what's the threshold here? :-/

Are you asking why your enmity was reset? Well thats simple i suppose. Migawari only makes sure we dont get one shotted. homing missile from said chariot, regardles of how much dmg you take still resets whomever got hit. i think you were there with me for rani today to lol.

Because Homing missile will go right through Migawari without it, the ningi must give at least 1% reduction in the required HP% amount to activate. Instead of 100% of your HP or more, the required amount of DMG of your max HP must fall anywhere in 90-99% range instead of 100%.
Doing Turul last night, it blocked Feral peck. Only once, but I was at full HP when it happened.
