How much attack do you need to cap cRatio?Follow

Given that debuffs are becoming more important in the analysis of gear comparisons, I've written up these charts as references for the useful limits of attack on various merit mobs. Other mobs of interest may be added over time.

Assuming capped cRatio is 2.0 for 1-handed weapons and 2.25 for 2-handed weapons (2.0 is pretty certain, 2.25 is slightly less so).

Values shown as 1/2/3 || 1/2/3 for 3 levels of a mob (eg: levels 81/82/83), showing 1-handed caps on the left, 2-handed caps on the right.

Def down values of:
00% -- Base
05% -- Dia or Box Step
10% -- Dia II
15% -- Dia III or Dia II + Box Step
20% -- Dia III + Box Step
25% -- Dia III + Box Step + Light Shot
32% -- Dia III + Box Step + Acid Bolt (32.5% actually, but using 32% to keep the columns neat)

Can get to different levels with various combinations. Key for analysis purposes is that Box Step takes you up one level in the chart. If you have a cor in the party, Light Shot after Dia will take you up a step on the chart fairly often, but not for every mob (timers don't allow it), and is just as likely to be used to help sleep birds anyway since they can't reflect it.

(yay, fun with colors...)

In general, 2-handers need 70-80 more attack to cap out cRatio than 1-handers on the same level mob. About 20 of that will be covered by the str:att ratio for 2-handed weapons, which means they need an extra 50-60 attack. War and /War get another 10 from the Attack Bonus trait, leaving them with another 40-50 to make up. Drk gets +48 from Attack Bonus traits, leaving them at most 10 behind the equivalent 1-hander relative to cRatio cap.

Target attack varies by the debuffs you have available, but there are practical limits to consider as well:

Acid bolts aren't reliable outside of a crossbow rng. A thf using sushi can also hit fairly often, but accuracy is generally going to be only moderate.

Not all rdms merit Dia III, and not all rdms and/or parties can keep up with the MP requirement costs of using it.

Dia II should always be expected.

Not all parties have dnc or cor/dnc for steps, and most won't use a dd/dnc.

Wars and /wars using Berserk will quite often be going above the cap for a given debuff level, severely limiting its usefulness.

Makes sense rly, seeing as I can average 900ish on mnk/nin on pink birds and when I go /war, my average doesn't increase by 25%+ percent while berserk is up as compared to when it isn't.

Didn't actually read the entire post but I would like to point out something. You list Box Step as a defense debuff, which it is, however you did not include subsequent levels of Box Step which increases the debuff effect. Granted the targets are merit mobs which will much more often die before the application of several box steps in a single fight, however, you may want to look at possibly including that (perhaps as a extreme debuff case that may exceed 32%) just as a point for reference.

I believe the maximum debuff attainable will be (15+13+12.5 = 40.5%) from Dia III, Box Step, and Acid Bolt respectively. If you do extend your list to other mobs, perhaps ones that won't die so fast so that several applications of Box Step could be added, this may be of interest.

Angon foo. (doesnt stack with acids) 20%. Total 48%.

But if you want extreme, youd need to toss in blu spells.

Thanks for posting this, very interesting as I have not seen anything like it much before. One thing I would like to know is the rating for heraldic imps, I am guessing that it is around 600ish.

Also, Hilltroll paladins wow thats some high def they have, won't be capping c-ratio against those.

Check your total playtime, ever wondered what you could have done with all that time? I kinda wish I learnt the guitar.

Awesome(especially the colors). I add seedspray (8%) during blue mage burns, since lowering defense is the only way to up blue "attack", but I can figure that out.

Kinematics, you might want to go read the latest discoveries on pdif on BG, and the lastest edits on the wiki, and redo your charts. Level correction is applied after pdif cap, which means the upper cap on cratio is never 2.0 except on even match mobs or lower.

For instance, on level 81 colibri the cratio of monks is computed as min(attack/defense,2.0)-6*0.05, so the cap will be 1.70. Therefore the attack required to cap cratio, and therefore damage, will be :

With dia III, 548 only. (you find 631)

I've been doing some collaborative work in determining how the pDiff calculations are done, and think I've come up with a solid working formula for the 1.0-2.0 range (1-handed). If it holds up, I'll extend it up a bit further for the 2-handed limits.

Once that's satisfied, I can make a reliable determination of the effect of level correction, and see if I need to adjust the above charts.
