Any "Forum Regulars" who used to find this sticky useful PM me for access to it.

not that i care, since i have no little to no use for monk stickies, but removing this as a result of one guy complaining is fucking childish.

it's no personal loss to me, i just can't stand primadonnas. so some guy you don't even know is whining about forum regulars in one thread. boohoo.

if you want to punish all the other readers because you feel that no one is appreciating your efforts, at least be honest about it and take responsibility for it. don't try to say "the stickies are gone because of the actions of X person". that just makes you look petty. if your goal is to look petty, by all means continue.

not sure why i even bothered to write this actually, but oh well.
Not at all. The idea is to let people apreciate what they have. As we know, poeple take things for granted. Until they're gone, that is.

You can't launch a broad attack on "Forum Regulars" because you don't like the answer you've been given:

"Is MNK/THF a good idea?"

"No, this isn't 2005, gtfo"

"Bawww forum regulars bullying me"

Posters come here, ask us for information. They use our reference guides and current information. Then what? Want to pretend they're a pretty little snowflake? It worked for them this one time so it will work for everyone?

No, I'm sorry, it dosn't work that way. If you ask someone for advice and recieve it, you can't start fighting tooth and nail because you don't like the answer you've been given.

I was told in a thread recently that people need to stop feeding my ego, aswell as I need to get over myself. Honestly? The reason this forum exsists is because five people over the last four years have continuously posted in it. Milich, Acturus, Norellicus, Jinte and myself. Along with many others. Does this make me egotistical? Sure. Should it make you new posters greatful to have such information at your fingertips? It sure should.

Back when I started posting, people like MrKaze, DJSlyde & Chixxor were still posting. A lot of their stuff used to be in the Index. They knew their MNK stuff, just like we now know ours. If you don't want us to tell you when you're doing it wrong, don't ask for advice about it. It really is that simple.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have stickies to rewrite..

Nah, I figured this should be in it's own thread so it can be digested by the bowels of the forum when it's done with. Rather than making my beautiful stickies look untidy. Smiley: crymore

Thanks for putting them back. I still don't see the need to justify your actions based on the fact that you got upset on a forum by some anonymous people you can write off as dumbasses.

It was more to prove a point to those partiular dumbarses.

They launch a broad attack on forum regulars. Guess what, forum regulars are the ones who answer all the questions. We make reference materials, do the math, perform tests and generally help out.

You can't attack people because you don't like facts. Some people need to learn this.If you want to attack us, no more answers for you. Meh, it was childish, but I was A)Semi-cut, and 2) Angry.

You did the right thing though, both temporarily taking it down and then putting it back up.

That's why I decided to just ignore the thread.

of course, you CAN attack people because you don't like the facts, and you CAN completely refuse to accept the well documented and universally sound facts.

Organized Religion has been doing it for centuries...

I think the main 2 ppl that have made this forum what it is today without a shadow of a doubt, is Milich and Kinematics. The rest just add the the community, fill in the gaps etc.

The math these to guys have delivered is second to none. Many other jobs come to the Monk forums, just to read what kinne or Pahn are mathing it up on. Other than a legendary starfox/Pahn final Dune/Fuma thread, We are what we are today because of the math these 2 guys have presented us with.

I learned my game math from Wiki, Pahn, and some pm's with Kinne. Both are usually quite approachable (especially Pahn if you offer him a beer for helping you out).

So I don't even know if people will know who I am, but I am an old old old timer (just post-Effen). Also as I'm writing this I'm realizing that it's really freaking long, so sticking in fair warning at the top, really long post from an old-timer being all old-timer-y.

We had the regulars, the semi-regulars, our trolls and the like, math was far less prevalent (pDif and fStr weren't around yet, parsers were fringe things and the like).

When Effen had quit, Tenmiles was entrusted with the sticky and, as I learned in PM, didn't really even want the job he was just 'the guy' and so got stuck with 'the stuff'. Part of what I think wears down the regulars over time is the effort that's needed to maintain the stuff that needs to be maintained (stickies, keeping up with developments in the game, keeping up with ideas being floated by different players and judging the merits, etc etc etc) all while people are coming and going and being in different parts of the game, their own styles and their own personality.

As I read through the locked thread and this thread I thought back to some of my own experiences as I went through the game and transitioned from being a newish poster to one who was an entrenched regular.

One, early on in my posting experience was an exchange between DJSlyde (the original backflipping monk) and a semi-troll. DJ was basically going through what Nilatai et al are going through now, a guy who wanted to be different and when he was told that what he wanted to do had been done and wasn't the case wouldn't budge, he'd made up his own mind and was going to stick to his guns. DJ had lost his temper, I was trying to jump in and play peacekeeper, and one of my suggestions was 'have a notepad with common replies, paste it in and don't get worked up', which is nice and all, but DJ's response was good. Which is, we do, and sometimes the same stuff just keeps coming and coming and it gets to you.

So what I took from that is something that I tried to apply to my future postings. Namely, I'll spend a little time working on a given poster who's putting up stuff that just doesn't jive, but after a while, if they've made up their mind, they've made up their mind, and I'll just stop. Stop reading them, stop replying to them, if I see them in a thread that has something that's worth replying to, I'll just ignore their post.

That brings me to the other poster, and the good ole TOPIC OF SUMMONING (I'm too lazy to do the color tags). But our good friend the guard skill troll (who's name I can't even remember right now). The regulars will know of whom I speak, but a brief recap, he thought that having capped guard skill was the best thing for monk, and that it had all sorts of counter-intuitive bonuses (such as guard skill influencing counter rates I think). There was one thread which because sort of a meta-trolling thread, where if the OP got rated to excellent, troll-boy had said he'd stop posting, it did and he kept posting, there was much angst.

The argument was: he's posting bad stuff we don't want people to read it and be influenced.

My counter: People will either 1 - not see it cause it doesn't stay on the front page (whereas you replying, adding to post count and bumping increases visibility), 2 - will try it, find that, as the regulars assert, his claims don't mesh with reality and abandon them or 3 - try it and insist that it's right too which, if they're not crazy means the regs. need to reevaluate or if they are they were probably beyond help anyway.

So I guess out of all of that, my advice to the current batch of regulars is, don't get so worked up about the trolls, or the people who won't listen to you. That's their right, but at the same time it's your right to choose who gets your time and who gets your help. On the sticky issue specifically (pulling them), I'd say that pulling them even to prove a point is beyond where you should go - the stickys are for everyone and have a life outside of one poster. So while I certainly feel that Nilatai has done a great deal with the current one and it's maintenance, don't forget that you've got links to Effen's old sticky and other things that came before - it's your post, but it's not just your post sort of deal.

Now then, it's back to lurking and yelling at you kids to get off my lawn.
