I honestly never expected to get my Black Belt. Been 75 mnk for 3 (4?) years now, and every prior opportunity I've had always seemed to fizzle out. However an LS friend that got hooked up with a shell that does KS99s invited me to join up with them a few weeks ago, and I finally got my chance.

April 25, 2009 - KS99 Behemoth, paid for tongue from a friend's orb; mine didn't drop, but I got 1.2 mil in other stuff, so balanced out.
May 2, 2009 - KS99 Turtle, paid for egg from someone else's orb; mine didn't drop.
May 9, 2009 - KS99 Wyrm, got beard on my orb.
May 10, 2009 at about 6AM - Black Belt

Overall net cost: 1 million gil and about 18 hours of helping on KS99 runs (12+ runs every week, oi.. still, lots of fun). Now to go play with it...

Its always nice to hear that a Black Belt has found a deserving owner.

That reminds me... if I could trade that quest for usu body... I'd gladly be gettin some more BB items, haha

Drops will generally vary from 1-2mil each.

edit: Woops, didn't see the word KS99 at the end. Afraid I don't know the answer to that one.

it also depends on how many orbs the group has. if they have more orbs than they know what to do with, it's probably 1-2m or benevolent free. if they have less orbs than they have time, you may be able to work a deal where you give an orb (and all its non-BB drops) for BB item--especially if it's beard you're after, since speed belt is a pretty big deal.

congrats(:. that's a really fair system in my opinion. MNKs looking to form a little KS99 group, take note(:, since that would probably work pretty well to get people together. also, i don't know why i still use emoticons.

Man, out-lotted, out-claimed, 30 person bottleneck in LS. You know the drill, most all of us have been 2/3 pulling our hair out over one of the items.

FoV in Valley of Sorrows, on the drop off end, and I hear a shout, Adamantoise Egg, Do you need it?

Cost me 2 Mil, but it was worth it after all the fails at 150 camps!

Got mine today!

- Tongue obtained for free several months ago from KS99 with my friend's sky ls.
- Beard from Nidhogg on Wednesday. Paid 1.5 mil.
- Egg from NQ turtle just a couple hours ago. A pair of blms claimed it first and died to a bunch of aggro, then my group grabbed it. 1/1 on egg. HQ was yesterday but some JP rdm shouted 3 mil for egg...

Got beard and egg from ks99. Tounge took forever to get but my ls got a KB luckly and finally got my black belt.

Black Belt obtained 9/16/09 at 5:10AM!

Bought the Behemoth Tongue first in Qufim for 1.5M

After over a dozen times of watching Fafhogg drop the Beard and either being outbid for it, or just not having enough gil to pay in general, a random LS sold me the Wyrm Beard for 2M.

After that, I HAD to have the egg, so I liquidated all my SMN gear (retired it anyhow) to be able to afford to buy the egg. I understand why it is called the Valley of Sorrows now... I witnessed at least 20 drops of the egg that were sold to other people. Two players spent 7M each just for that one item. I claimed Adamantoise 3 times, and killed it twice with no drop (the first time, I would have had it but was solo and got eaten by adds). I was getting pretty tired of being outbid EVERY time for the egg, and was about to give up, until last night.

One of the usual HNMLS had claimed Aspid, and they had him in a really bad spot where they had like 8 adds. They were able to handle them, but it was going very slowly. The tank held Aspid for over a half an hour while they whittled down the adds, but every time they killed two, another two repopped.

So it was pretty much at a stale mate, where the adds just kept on coming and I thought to myself, "Hey, maybe if I help them out, they will do the same" so I started grabbing newly spawned raptors and rocs as they appeared. One of the mages in the HNMLS was curing me on occasion, so I knew I had their attention. Eventually they cleared out all their own slept adds and went to work nuking the turtle.

When it died, I did what I always do where I ask in say for them to sell me the egg and I only had 3.4M on me, but this LS normally charges 3M. However, there were other bidders there, and one of them must have offered 4M because one of the LS leaders said "4M" in say, and I didn't say anything since I knew I didn't have that.

A minute or two later though, I got a tell from him saying "We are selling it to you." To which I responded "I don't have 4M. 3.4 is the highest..." but he just said "3M" and all I said was "Sold!" And even after a guy offered to pay 4.5M in say, they invited me, I paid and they let me lot and also thanked me for helping clear the adds. So yeah, it was awesome to see that it paid off to help them, and that money isn't always everything in this game.

Tongue dropped from NQ Behemoth post-maintenance about a year prior.
Egg obtained from Aspid in September '09.
Beard purchased for too much gil off of Nidhogg.

Being @ 25% Haste is a nice feeling. For most, the Egg is hardest, because if your not in an HNM ls, you either have to camp it, or pay 2-3M for it. I came into alot of gil from a friend who left the game, and I spent 5M of it on the tongue and egg of both HQ's on the same day, it was the best gil i've ever spent.

I doubt I'll ever commit to Salvage now with ffXIV on the horizon, but i'm very happy with my 25% haste, +42ACC (not inc ACC from Haidate or Rajas) MNK. A 5/5 Usukane MNK obviously rules due to the additional ~20ACC + 4fSTR from having the set gives MNK, which is why you need so much gil to support it.

As of 2am est this morning I got my final piece for my black belt beard came from KSNM99, tongue I had to buy, and egg came from KSNM99 this morning. So when I get home tonight I will be trading all of them in and getting my black belt.

I've been a 75 monk now for about 2 years. Up until about 6 months ago i was 0/3 on black belt items and thought i'd never get it. I was 2/5 on Usukane already. Then after an update I started camping the Turtle, and on day 4 I was getting ready to head out to VoS and then I figured I should search behemoth domain.
The search showed like 100+ people there. So I took off to there and what do I See? King Behemoth is up and being killed. So I quickly find a LS leader that is fighting him and ask if I can buy the tongue. I get a tell back saying 2 million?
I say sure. So after they killed him, I got my 1st Black belt item.

After a few more months of nothing and some canceled ks99 runs, and now 4/5 on my Usukane (needed just the body), 4 weeks ago my ls get 12 people together and we kill 2 ks99 Wyrms. We had x2 pld, x3whm, x3blm, rdm, sch, brd, rng (me), no beard. Then one of our blm had to leave and no one else wanted to risk their orb. So after 2 hour of searching friends, people started popping into the LS and we now had 18 people for the rest of the ks99. After about 4 more pops the beard finally drops.
Now my LS has a rule that the orb holder gets any 2 items he/she wants and rest is auto dropped. If a BB item drops and orb holder doesn't want it, then the Monks of the LS follow a lotting order.
The orb holder can also give or sell the BB item to some one and it counts as 1 of their 2 lots. So before hand I work out a deal with this member to buy his beard for 1 million if it dropped since it didn't drop on my orb. Well it work out good for both of us, as the only good drop he got was Dragon meat & the beard. So he got 1 million gil & now I was 2/3 on BB.

After about a week from doing ks99 I decided to get the Turtles ToD and get my Egg. After 3 weeks of watching others get the Egg, being out claimed, getting claim & no Egg, and no one selling the Egg when it did drop. I got up this morning and went out there to camp yet another day. I knew I wasn't getting claim as my LS was still sleeping. Upon the 1st window there is just me and 1 LS member that has help me camp a few times and another LS there with just 4 people. First window opens and what do I see? Aspi has popped and their pld got claim. They end of having some aggro, so I decide to help with the aggro. I ask their leader that is there if I can buy the Egg, she says maybe. After about 10 mins more of their LS shows up and they now have enough damage to take down the Turtle. After about 10 mins they have the Turtle down to 3%. So I ask the leader again if they will sell it to me. I get now response, the Turtle is Dead. I send another tell 4 million?, again nothing. I send one more tell of just ?
I then get a tell back saying, k. They invite me, I lot the Egg, pay the leader, Egg drops :)

I then go finish my Black Belt Quest and obtain my New Black Belt at 10:37am EST Nov 14/09
