Dear god, what have I done.

Couple of weeks ago, I got a call from the school where I had my internship. They were looking for a temporary teacher for some science classes and I took them. Turns out it's not so much a substitute teacher job as it is "here are some kids, now you're their teacher... good luck!" So many administrative things to keep track of. I'm so confused, I can't even think straight.

At least the money's good. Smiley: thumbsup

Hang in there, I remember when my wife first started teaching 15 years ago. She was overwhelmed with the administrative stuff, but now she mentors other teachers. While teaching her regular class load. And the administrative **** just becomes part of the day.

Just one question though, how old are these kids? And what science subject are you teaching them? Chem, Bio, Living Environment, Brewing? O.K., that was more than one question. But at least I raised my hand first.

There's an alternative to drinking beer while teaching. Drinking vodka out of a water bottle. I had a teacher in 8th grade who did that. Smiley: lol

You have to drink way too much water to get drunk off it. Would be much more suspicious.

Best of both worlds. Serious dehydration with that though, will have to bring along the water bottle to keep me going.

Downward spiral of infant parenting:

No sleep means you're tired, so you drink coffee.
Coffee dehydrates you so you drink water.
Water fills you up so there's less room for food.
Not enough food makes you tired, so you drink coffee...

All that and you have to pee a lot.

I can help you with that protein.

Eat less carbs (under 50g per day if possible for you) and more fat and protein. All your carbs should come from your meats and veggies. Some fruit is okay. You will have a lot more sustained energy and no sugar crashes. Seriously, since I started doing this a little over a week ago I've had so much more energy. I can run on 5.5 hours of sleep with few problems.

I'm getting better at it. Got my egg breakfast sandwich thingy, yogurt for the morning. Coffee is always black, so no sugar-loading there. Did feel a bit of a difference, was nice.

Biggest help though was getting the youngest out of our room. Waking up at 7am instead of 5am works miracles. It had been almost 2 years since I'd had an uninterrupted night sleep. Smiley: lol

They're 7th graders, so 13-14-year-olds. And they hate science, which makes for a challenging work environment. I'm teaching them physics and chemistry - currently the subjects are our senses, working primarily with hearing and sight. After that, it's water and air, which is more chemistry (and allows for more experiments with fire and **** which is what the kids want).

I've taken over from a teacher who was old school boring, so the kids don't have lots of expectations. It's their first year of physics and chemistry, but they still haven't had a basic introduction to the subject, so I'll probably have to do that first. My fellow science teachers are all 50+, so good times. They gave me a book and told me to just teach from it. Never done that before; I usually made up the material as I went.

It'll be some interesting months, especially now that I'm starting on my bachelor project as well. Who needs sleep, anyway?

Also, I "upgraded" to iTunes 11. Suddenly I can't organize my music the way I have done for the past years anymore so I'm downgrading again.
But seriously Apple, why the **** did you take out the different options for how one views albums/artists? I want to see artists under nice tiles, not in a big list with the songs in the most awkward list next to them.

This is why I don't like change Smiley: motz

Fortunately, not bad. It was just a massive inconvenience. Took forty minutes before I was finally able to get on the road, and spilled my coffee everywhere when it happened. Terrible headache from stress and caffeine withdrawals by the time I actually arrived at the office. Was only 20 minutes late though, because traffic was lighter by the time I hit the worst parts.

For physics, just describe everything in Looney Tunes terms. Like Wile E. Coyote dropping anvils and ****

Bonus points for actually having artistic talent to draw a rough approximation of Wile E. Coyote (or making a magnet version that you can stick on the blackboard) plus a Road Runner and ACME anvil.

My high school physics teacher had us build catapults and trebuchets. Best class I've ever taken, as we made a trebuchet that could launch a watermelon something like 1000 yards (one side of campus to the other). It had to be assembled and to get it to school we had to use a friend's pickup truck.

Needless to say, we got an A.

Woah! Rear-ended? I've got a doctor I want you to go to, and he will send you to a physical therapist. You don't have to stay for the therapy, but you have to stop by and sign in three times a week. You will also need to wear a soft cervical collar for the deposition and use a cane. I'll get you 5 to 6 k for your troubles, just sign right here on the dotted line.

I'm sure you've seen my commercials on television - Torts-R-Us? That's right, my partners and I have 257 years of trial experience between us. Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe. (all figures presented are approximations and should not be taken as accurate reflections of the truth)

You heard of the McDonald's case? No, that wasn't ours, we had the Tony's Bar-b-cue Chicken case - our client suffered severe third degree stains on her clothing due to the negligence of Tony in failing to properly secure his barbecued chicken in a proper size napkin, and in failing to post proper warnings. We settled that one out of court and I am constrained by the terms of the settlement to not disclose the amount. Suffice to say, my client was very satisfied. (certain "facts" have been embellished in order to fit the story within the constraints of this medium)

Smiley: laugh

It sounds like you weren't hurt, so that's good. It's still a pain having to get the car repaired and do the insurance company thing. Make sure you report it to your insurance company if you haven't already done so. Even if the other guy offers to repair and not report the accident, make sure you always report it. I've seen a lot of people get hurt by that when the other guy then later decides to change his mind.
