In other news, I'm getting seriously fed up with Bethesda. Fine, we'll never get the DLC on PS3. Sucks, but I can accept that. What I can't accept is that our 1.06 patch (which is actually patches 1.6 and 1.7, because we never frickin' got the last one) seriously @#$%ed up the game. Again.

Freezing issues, general lag, a TON of graphical load issues (if I switch to third person, first I see a bald head, then a bald head with hair, then my helm. Or when I run up to a table... and wait for the higher res texture to load). It's just as bad as it was in 1.04, which 1.05 in theory mostly corrected (if you weren't one of the players who ended up with the unfixable version of the "enter water and freeze" bug).

It's ridiculous. I don't even care about general bugs at this point because I just want the game to be @#$%ing playable. How do you hold back on one patch because of stability issues and then release the next one... which just adds stability issues? It makes me wonder just how bad 1.05 was.

I'm a little pissed right now.

I'm guessing it's because Betheseda develop on Xbox/PC, then port to PS3, because it's notoriously hard to code for. Things like this are why we need to move out of this console generation. They're terrible pieces of hardware.

Bad ports are another, and more important, reason.

The lack of PC-taxing graphics isn't so bad if they allow for mods, at least.

And it's not terribly uncommon for developers to release a hi-res pack for the people who want one.

The really popular games often get unofficial packs anyway (though I imagine those are a b*tch to install).


The real problem with bad ports isn't lower resolution textures than your rig can handle, it's half-assed porting that leaves PC versions with UIs and other systems that are optimized for consoles but suck for keyboards/mice.

Nothing about Skyrim's UI seems all that console centric... It's about as minimalist as it can get?

Or are you talking about the menus? Yeah, I suppose that could be annoying. But can't you navigate to each menu from a keybind? I'm sure there are mods that would make even that default screen much better.

Skyrim's probably on par with all first person melee games I've played.

The combat is definitely one of its weakest aspects, but no one has ever really pretended otherwise. It's better than Oblivion, and Oblivion was better than Morrowind, so at least they're trying to make it better?

I got a huge headache from waking up at 4:45 though, as I'm not used to waking up at all, so I had to take a 20 minute nap.

I'll be 'in bed' for 8-ish. How much of that is spent sleeping largely depends on the young ones. Somewhere around 7hrs. if everything goes right.

Coils that go into generators, big ones, that go into ships etc.
