Ok, the quest. Trade in 10,000 Moat Carps for a Lu Shang Fishing Rod

In your opinion, is it better to buy the Lu Shang Fishing Rod for 5 to 6 mill?
Or trade in the 10,000 Moat Carps?
If doing something else would be faster.., i wouldn't mind doing it. At a 200 Fish limit per day, it would take me a minimum of 50 days if i fished 200 every single day.
Im sure there must be a way to make 6 million in less then probably 14 days.
Im a level 99 MNK, also have a 87 THF. Any suggestions appreciated.

Moat carp sell for 9k a stack on Valefor and 6,5 to 7 mil for the fishing rod.
So if you were going to buy every single stack of moat carp and traded it in for the quest, it would work out more expensive then buying the fishing rod from AH.
The people who tend to win on this quest are the ones who trade every single moat carp in without being tempted to buy any from AH.
If you can find a faster way to make 7 mil gil then go for that and then buy the rod if your in a hurry to own one.

That's what I was getting at. It was 12k a stack on my server. So 1000 x 10000 = 10,000,000 for fish. And the rod was only 7.5m. So I got the rod off AH and over time turned in carp for it from fishing. After I got the rod from the quest, I sold the other back on AH. Luckily price went up to 8m. So I broke even pretty much on bait cost ect.

Im thinking i might start Questing for it now as of Dec. 15th.. my moat carps at AH have stopped selling like they used to, not sure if its a safe bet to sell them all.
Its been a day and a half, normally never takes that long to sell. I think they might be sent back to my mog house pretty soon, all 7 stacks of them.

Moat Carp fishing tips!
Ok some quick tips for people fishing up moat carp for either to sell for profit or quest your lu shangs fishing rod.
(This is probably no suprise to many fishermen but it may help out some beginners.)
*You will need to be able to make or get a friend to make some insect paste for you.
*Try and get 30k for a Halcyon fishing rod, you won't regret it!
*You can catch 200 fish a day. (If your character level is above 20.)
*Learn different fish patterns as they start to bite. (Moat carps have a slightly different pattern then tricolored carp and gold carp is even more noticable as you need to work harder to knock down their HP.)
*Items have very little to no stamina!
*Releasing any fish or items does not count towards your 200 a day but it will use up bait if you do release it.
*Work out what you want more from your time fishing: Do you want a mix of skill and moat carps or do you just want moat carps?
Once you get your Lu Shangs, it's a lot easier to level up.
(Maybe you want to quest your fishing rod faster so you would ideally want to get 200 moat carp to trade in and not want those gold carp or tricolored carp or even dark bass if you were fishing at Bastok Markets.)
*For pure moat carp fishing, go to the KNIGHTS WELL at West Ronfaure. (It's the only body of water in the zone so it's not hard to spot.)
*You can ONLY fish moat carps here and items/monsters are easily identified and released as you come across them.
*For a mix of fish and skill you can fish moat carps in the following places and/or get Dark Bass, Gold Carp and Tricolored carp.
Bastok Markets, Windy Woods, North Sandy and Port Sandy near the Lu shangs quest NPCs.
*How long will it take to catch 200 moat carp at the Knights well?
I have done some testing on this because I was interested to find out this information too. I quested my first Lu shangs in 2005 and I've started doing the quest again on my mules which seems to be a common thing these days. :D
Anyway here are the results:
Level 10 capped fishing skill (level 99 BST mule) can catch around 200 fish in 4 hrs at the knightswell and it takes even longer if I try and fish only moats at any other location previously mentioned.
My lvl 110 capped fishing skill (Main character) can catch 200 moat carp in 2hrs at the knightswell and it's around 2hrs 30 ar any other locations as you will get other things besides moats biting at your bait. I don't seem to get monsters or items biting my line.
I think that's mostly because of my fisherman's smock but I had never noticed much effect with these items at other camps before.
In both cases I used a Halcyon fishing rod and insect paste!
