I'm already @ 9k on my Lu shang count ^^ I look at this fishing guide by Ctownwoody for skillups, well.. eventually xD

What i'm wondering is before he split the skillups to lu shang and no lu shang, can i still catch the fish before the split using lu shang..? Or should I use the rod he recommends? @.@ Thanks!

Yes Lu Shang will work better then any other rod he suggests for skill ups. I imagine the only reason he splits the skill ups by level is because he doesn't expect someone at such a low level of fishing to already have a lu. Bottom line, if you have a Lu Shangs use it and love it.
Fishing 100 Ebisu got
I would say that pre-level 50 you wouldn't need to worry about not having a lu shangs because you could get by nicely with a halcyon fishing rod.
Halcyon rod targets pretty much everything that Lu shangs can but your Lu shangs will not break on anything except certain legendary fish. (Usually fish which are 100+)
Halcyon fishing rod can be a bit annoying when trying to target Nebs in SSG because Bastore Breaks will took at your line when you have a shrimp lure equipped.
It's easily avoided by tapping your Esc Key when you get a Bastore Bream biting because they would be pretty tough to reel in for someone of lvl 11 fishing.
