I'm still debating how I want mine, to tell you the truth. Because I really don't know...

I really want to change my UI to feature the minimap in the bottom center like yours, Spoon, but unfortunately Quickbar 1 still has those dumb arrows and sh*t attached, and it tickles my OCD the wrong way.

I'd post my UI, but BW decided that 1 PM to 5 PM European time on a Friday is a good time to fix stuff.

Will you post the *.xml file for those who wish to share in your hard work?

I'm not sure, but I think you might be able to get rid of the arrows by disabling the "show background" option. I'm at work right now so I can't check, but if you look at the bars on the right side of my screen, you'll see there's a gap and they have no border. I later found that option and turned it on, and they now have that border and look right. I'm wondering if I can remove the background on that first bar.

I really really wish the UI editor put a grid on the screen. I'll probably take a ruler later and center some of the elements properly.

The quickslots might be a tad small; I might bump up the scale by .05 or .1 maybe. They're really just a visual reminder of what I have bound where, and for watching some procs. Only thing I ever click with the mouse is Seethe and its analogs.

A note on subtitles: If your subtitles are way off center and sh*t, that's because they decided to let you move the response wheel, and cutscene subtitles are centered above it.

I have to find a suitable place for my focus target, and probably resize my op frames a bit smaller. I like the target-of-target position. In WoW, I kind of had the focus frame in the bottom right corner of the top left quadrant of my screen.

I'll post an .xml when I'm finally happy with my layout.

You can remove the background on all quickbars but it does not remove the arrows on the first one. It just removes... well, the background.

Can you hide the main quickbar? Because you could just use the other 3 instead, right?

Pfft. I could use another quickbar. Don't think I could consolidate to 3. Smiley: lol

Well, maybe once macros are in. I'm assuming I'll be able to put sh*t like all my medpacks in one macro, and all my short-CD buffs in one macro, etc..

Like, one macro could have:
Quote:
/use Warzone Expertise Adrenal
/use Rakata Attack Adrenal
/use Short-term Buff 1
/use Relic 1
/use Relic 2
I'm not even asking for it to activate everything at once like you can do in WoW. Simply having to press the same macro multiple times will be much better than having to press multiple keybinds. I've got Warzone Meds/Adrenals, PvE Meds/Adrenals, short class buff (on Powertech, it's Explosive Fuel), and two Relics taking up space on my bars. That's 7 slots that could be condensed to 2.

I guess you could put Quickbar 1 underneath the minimap and go three wide with it, or change the configuration of two others. The fourth bar could go somewhere like the side or wherever. It's a popular configuration in WoW, I've noticed, to have things you might click like medpacks, bombs, etc. on a sidebar.

I might move the chatbox to the bottom right corner of the screen, shift the ops frames up, and put the focus frame under those. Either that or move the chat box to the bottom right, and stack the ops frames above it, if you can have it grow from right to left. I think if they're too high up on the screen, they won't be accessible if I end up leveling a healer, and I like to have one UI setup across all characters.

I could, but I'm running out of space on the three I rolled with pre-1.2. Smiley: lol This game, man. So many abilities, not enough keys on the keyboard.

A simple "use <ability> then <ability>, reset in <time>" macro function would be awesome. I'd be able to compound some of the abilities into one hotkey instead of having five abilities, each with a 15-second cooldown, taking up my main hotkeys because I need to press them whenever they're ready.

To use WoW terminology, it would look something like this:

#showtooltip
/castsequence reset=15 Battering Assault, Assault

Servers are back up, so here's the promised screenshot of my UI:
Default Custom UI (I know, I rock at making names for stuff)

And here's the *.xml file:
Default Custom UI.xml - 25.3 KB (choose the "Free download" option - it'll ask you to wait 45 seconds and then you can download the file)

Put it in your GUIProfiles folder located at:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\SWTOR\swtor\settings

The AppData folder is hidden by default so you may have to enable showing of hidden folders. To do this, on Windows 7 at least, open a window, press Alt and then select the Folder Settings option in the drop-down menu of Functions. It's the bottom option. Once you open the Folder Settings, you need to click the tab called Show and then scroll down to Hidden Folders and Files and move the check mark from Don't Show to Show.

These are direct translations from Danish, so they might be named something else in the English version of Windows, but I'm sure you'll find it.

I'm going to re-design mine tomorrow night, I think. All I did with it so far is move both side bars to the right side of the screen like the WoW default UI.

I agree with running out of bar space. I recently had to do a purge on some abilities that I wasn't using but I'm still tight on space. I'm thinking I'll go with something that resembles the WoW default UI, particularly where the mini-map is, because I still find myself looking up and to the right when farming archaeology nodes.

I'm seriously debating with myself about what to do with my unit frames, chat box, and minimap. I know I'll have quickslot bars in the center, because you pretty much need them, especially since there are no macros.

I think my minimap will be put on the bottom right, with chat on the bottom left. I'm just so used to looking there, and I tend to ignore my chat now. I just don't know what to do with party frames with that. I'll definitely be keeping my/target frames in the center, though.

Meh, I'll experiment one of these days.

I was messing around with this last night - finally got to log in for the first time since the patch. Had some fun moving things around, and while I was doing it I had my character standing in the middle of a scrum getting infected and collected 20 DNA samples.

Here's the funny part - I was getting frustrated because I wanted to move my chat to the lower left side, but every time I opened the UI tool and tried to move it, I couldn't get it to move. I was moving other things around and continued to try to find a way to move my chat by clicking on different buttons or moving sliders in the UI tool box, but only got more frustrated. Then, at one point when I had the UI tool closed, I thought back to LotRO and just grabbed the title bar of the chat box and tried to move it . . . and, of course, it moved.

I don't know why I feel compelled to broadcast how dumb I can be when no one would otherwise know, but there you go.

Here's a quick question - I moved my target unit and my target-of-target unit to where I want them, but how do I turn on target-of-target? Either I don't have it on or, if it's always on, the two dozen people I clicked on last night were not targeting anyone.

In the UI editor, click your target-of-target frame. Then, in the options box, make sure the "Enable" box is checked. I believe it's disabled by default.

Here is a site I found with about 100 UI's posted. You can upload your own there too, if you like.

MMO Mechanics

I found it at 4am last night, and was only able to look at a couple of the pages. I was hoping to see more "variety" to maybe get some good ideas from, but for the most part most of the UI's still look all the same to me.

I think atm, my main problem is that being used to playing EQ, I am used to having lots of text fly by, lol. And I'm still trying to figure out which text I actually need, and how I can split it into 3-4 well-placed chat windows, AND have all my info easily seen.

Thought it was RAW for a moment there. Isn't it the same avatar?

Speaking of chat windows (we totally are), is anyone running with multiple chat windows visible? I've got one in the bottom right and left side of the screen, but when I hit Enter to type something, it's always the one of the right that activates, which, incidentally, is not the one I use for chatting (it displays system info). Growing tired of it, I decided to swap the windows around, but when I hit Enter again, it activated the one on the left. Seems like it automatically activates the one that is relaying system info, which is annoying.

And IDK about the chat windows.

The site is kosher. It's the new name and URL for www.sithwarrior.com, which is/was an Elitist Jerks style theorycrafting website for SW:TOR that has expanded and added some new features.

Sorry, I don't know who RAW is. Yes, that is one of the default avatars. I've been a longtime lurker/poster on the EQ section of Alla's, and realized the other day that they had a SWTOR section when the Bioware forums were down along with one of the patches. I was looking for some UI ideas anyway and found you guys with a fresh discussion on it, lol.

I noticed the same thing happening with my chat windows yesterday: it would only default to the window that had the system messages going through it. I also noticed that the windows would always default to General for the left window, and Say for the right window. It was getting very annoying having to keep switching to the Ops channel every time I went into a warzone.

I took a bit more time last night redoing my UI. I'll post a screenshot when I'm at the SWTOR computer.

Also... has anyone been able to get the chat windows to stay transparent? I can only get mine to "fade".

I think that r/swtor has a pretty good community. Not that I'm trying to drive people away from here, but it's a decent sized group and there's a good amount of activity without the general sh*tshow that is o-boards.

Moved some stuff around, I haven't used that grid to align everything yet, but I'm fairly happy with how it is for now.

Here's the .XML file.

I think I might add a combat log chat window to the upper left of the screen. I can't make one small enough to fit next to my companion frame.

Edit: Apparently the combat log is just logged to file; you can't display it in a chat window. Disappointing.

Yeah, and they warned that you have to manually manage it. So it can become a space hog if you play a lot without purging it.
