My sister accidentally ran over her old iPhone a while back and while she just went out and bought a new, I'm a cheap bastard, so I phoned Apple and all kinds of stuff to get the smashed iPhone replaced. It came today, so after transferring all my stuff to it (from an older iPhone), I wanted to remove the security key (authenticator) from my account so I could enable it on my new phone. Except... I couldn't.
Well, that's not entirely true. I can, of course, remove the security key, but it requires a phone call to BioWare, which means they might as well have told me that it can't be removed. I'm on a cell phone where international calls aren't allowed (they close my account if I make any) and the nearest free landline is at my parents' place, which I just came back from and won't be visiting for another month or so. Basically, I'm sh*t out of luck. Can't call them, but I have to call them.
That has got to be the most downright retarded thing in the history of security measures. Why on earth can't I just use a security key code to remove my security key? Blizzard managed to do this. Trion managed to do this. BioWare, for some godforsaken reason, went full retard on this one.
Makes me want to punch some developers in the face. Less money spent on cel-shading, more money spent on making sh*t not retarded, kthx.

Can't you dump some money into skype and make an actual phone call that way? How about a prepaid international calling card, one that lets you dial a local number to make an international call? It should only be a few euros either way.

I don't find the idea of having to pay a phone company money for an international call, so I can have BioWare rectify a mistake caused by their own incompetence, particularly tempting.

I had to dig up old posts to find out how to remove the key and then I'm told that removing the app is going to cost me more than buying the physical key in call charges?
That's just stupid.
I'm looking forward to the next iOS update, just to see the outcry on the forums.

Actually the problem is caused by YOUR mistake, you shouldnt have allowed the phone to get run over. The key app by design works fine, but do to your mistake you have an issue. Just playing devils advocate here :)
The phone that got ran over didn't have the app on it. Maz did the steps the sister did not want to do to get Him a new phone. That is where the issue somewhat lies.

The app works, however, it's not associated with my account. My account has a security key and the phone app is asking me t set it up with a corresponding account. I think i just need a reset.
Edit: I'm sorry, I meant to say a factory reset, which is a full wipe, not "hard reset" which is just a battery pull.

This thing has given me a headache too. I only got the security key to see what the security key vendors had which was pretty much worthless. After my old phone got its screen cracked I sent it in for repairs. It came back today, but totally wiped. I tried calling the hotline once before to have them remove the security key, but all I got was some options, press this button for phishing e-mail and this and that, but not security key or the option to speak with someone.
Can someone please help me with what numbers I need to press to be able to speak with someone on their phone number? Calling internationally I'm not gonna make 15 phone calls trying out all the options. It would be better if there was an option for securiy key, but obviously they expect you to do it blindly. I tried contacting Bioware via e-mail as well, to have it removed, and I got a reply to call their phone number. When I replied and said the phone number does not have an option for security key and it also does not let you talk to anyone, to which there was no response. I love Bioware's games, but it doesn't change the fact that they are some real unts as we say around here.

Sorry, mate, I can't help you. We still can't remove our security keys manually (it's starting to piss me off), which is probably because once removed, we can't reapply the smartphone security keys again.
Haven't called them yet, so I can't tell you what to do. It should have an option to press something or hold in order to speak to an employee. Then you'll get put through to some dude in India, or whatever, who will disable your key for you.
